Upon travelling in various parts of this crazy world, I have discovered that sizes really have a lot to do with the average of people in various places.
In the Philippines most of the clothing sizes were for 5’5" and under, weighing in at no more than 140lbs. As for the shoe sizes, it was a rare find for anything over a size 7.
In Quebec again, they assume consumers are all starved. A clothing store had “plus size” clothing for people with a 30 inch waist. Go figure.
So from this it truly shines on the fact Herbie brought up. The fact that most clothing items are not made in this country. Therefor are made for the average person in foreign countries.
After all, the news claimed that over 50% of British Columbians are over weight. This leads to another argument. Define being overweight.
Some people are naturally built bigger than most, get the same amount of exercise and consume relatively healthy meals. Just because they weigh in at more than what society deems as average, does this mean they have a problem? I don’t think so. I only think weight is a problem if it causes health problems or makes people at risk for problems.
What do you think?
my avatar Mr. Creosote is overweight. otherwise let someone else define it. Some sawed-off scrawny little runt is always willng to.
BTW I like your button. I’d like to test my virtue like Ghandi used to…
Oh my goodness, I have once again failed. I must try again tomorrow night!
If anyone’s noticed, it seems like most adult males in north/central BC are L-XL-XXL in men’s clothing sizes. Yet store continue to stock 30% S, 40%M, 25%L items. That leaves 75% of the men here fighting for the 5% of XL clothes.
The XL ones that when you point to something, the shirt sleeve pulls halfway to your elbow. And the 4XL you find once in a while billows like a tent, but won’t tuck in cuz it’s cut so short.
& what about men’s pants? Why do they go 36/34, 38/32, 40-42/30? Do normal big men have short legs? Do normal guys have waists 24" high, or does anyone else notice when you pull the crotch of your jeans above your knees, you have to unzip the fly to scratch your nipples?
Does anyone else have to be at the store when the truck unloads to buy THE pair of size 12 shoes that arrives?
That’s just 1 aspect of being tall (which I’m not in a town full of lumberjacks)
Well I know at Athletes World, for a batch of clothing we recieve, we get 2 Small, 2 Medium, 3 Large, 3 XL and 2 XXL, which just proves your point completely wrong, but I know it can’t be like that at every store. We do on occasion, run into a sizing problem with something, such as fleece jackets… a couple XXL’s were marked as Mediums, so I wanted to buy a Medium and brag to everyone that it was humongous on me.
I will agree that the shoes seem to be fitting a LOT smaller than they used to lately. I’m not sure if the people making the shoes in China, and Taiwan are trying the shoes on while they make them or what, but Nike shoes are definately a half size to a size smaller than they used to be. Adidas shoes also fit small, while And1 and Saucony shoes fit quite a bit bigger.
I’d also like to state that measuring your foot with a Brannock device is only a guide… they don’t run true for most people. I usually wear a mens 9-9.5 and it told me I should be wearing a mens 7.5-8, while it also told me I could fit into a women’s size 9… when I haven’t been able to fit women’s shoes since I was in grade 6.
i bet its because of all the xl sized indiginous people who shop at your store…
who buys shoes without trying them on anyway? the shoe size means something to me only when I’m trying to tell the clerk that I need one bigger or smaller than the one I’ve got on my foot at the moment. fo cheez.
You know what’s dumb? Girls that are obviously a size small or medium, buying a pair of XXL basketball shorts. How the hell is she going to run and keep those things up at the same time?
^^ haha yop and when they think they r kewl and wear them over their jeans or something…

I have noticed a lot of XL European people around town too. It’s just not right to single out a race.
Tis the season for all the tourists and service industry people to come out of the woodwork and spend LOTS of money in Rupert.
So certain people think.
It may be proper to single out race re: clothes shopping
BC = large % of asians
USA = large % black
USA has more clothes that fit bigger people off the shelf. Its true!
This should answer a few questions:http://members.shaw.ca/harbord/heights.html
