Pretty snippy with the customers also. And what’s with the half stocked shelves and you’re right, staff just hanging around chatting. I used to go there for the catfood but I can get the same price at Shoppers normally so really don’t care, one way or the other. I do witness some blatant shopliftng though but the staff say they can’t do anything. I miss Zellers.[/quote]
I don’t miss Zellers AT all…the offerings at this WalMart are MUCH improved to what was available at Zellers.
I was impressed at the start but early in realized that food is taking up the largest portion of the store, and that was disappointing, as Rupert already has a vast amount of grocery’s. We did not need another pharmacy as well…
We needed a store with more of the other items that walmart only carries here on a limited basis: clothing esp kids cloths, kitchen items etc… I consider walmart a glorified food store. I mostly buy cat food and litter it saves hauling it from Terrace but out side of that my shopping there is light… I noticed the other day items had no self price tags and had to take them to the scanners to be checked, it gave me flash backs of Zellers… Still think it’s somewhat better than Zellers but as I said too much food and not enough of anything else…
Seems like the shelves are more empty than full, but they are somewhat new and will give them a break and see if in the future they are able to stock the items that run low on a regular basis.
Grocery prices are very little different on many items, and at first it was so much better than our other grocery stores.
Sure seems like a bunch of workers who are less than enthusiastic. Seen the cashiers ask for help and what seems like is always a young teen who shows up with no solution. Is a few good/happy workers there, but most seem uninterested and just wander about doing nothing.
It seems like Wally world is going through the same adjustment/growing phase as they did when they opened a store where I lived before. Same situation. They took over an old store (Woolco) and tried to cram as much as possible in. They needed to expand, and being in a mall (such as PR) they couldnt unless neighboring stores gave up their spots. They didnt want to as they would lose all the traffic Wal Mart attracted. Eventually Wal Mart just up and pulled out of the Mall and built a stand alone store 2x the size. Shopping was more enjoyable after that with a better selection and seemingly happier staff. The mall eventually bacame a ghost town. Obviously no garantees but that may be the way things work out. Wether thats better or worse depends on how you look at it.
The rumour I’ve heard is that much of the merchandise was leaving the store in the dumpster, then late at night it would be removed from the dumpster. Also have heard brand new merchandise was appearing at the city dump. Can anyone confirm?
Well, if you sit in No.1 for a bit, you can hear customers placing orders for items from Wallys’! I am over it, I went in yesterday to search for dishtowels and not a one in sight. After asking the sales girl if they had any, she didn’t know what I meant but directed me to the washcloths! Thank you ! The place is a mess, shelves half empty, stock missing entirely and staff walking around like they have nothing to do. Suggestion? Maybe take a glance at the shelves and remove the empty coffee cups and slushy cups! There are a couple of nice sales people but the majority look like a chain gang wishing they could get back to prison ! lol Just go in for my canned milk and catfood and gone !!
Though it does sound extreme and why I’m of a notion that it is just a rumour, the story I heard was of pallet loads of goods going straight into their big garbage dumpster for later pick-up.
I don’t think the dumpster thing is a rumour. I’m hearing there were/are some criminal charges pending…I think it all boils down to poor management, poor hiring and training and poor support for the staff. Maybe it’s just a symptom of a new store opening…who knows.
Glad I read this, as I was contemplating on making a thread. I was in Walmart during the Holidays and then again around Valentines, and I really thought that the store may be closing… they’re out of just about everything. I wondered what happened, was there a road closure so the big semi’s couldn’t make it in, or were there a few semi’s hijacked prior to getting the goods to Walmart? I can’t confirm that the merchandise is appearing at the city dump, but I can confirm that the merchandise sure the hell isn’t hitting the shelves in Walmart. I’m hopeful they have surveillance there to pin-point which squirrel is steeling all the nutz, should that be the case.
I find it very hard to believe that Wall Mart would put up with this kind
of a loss!
This company is based on success not loss. If this nonsense is indeed
taking place the situation will soon end. Theft is nothing new and I am
very surprised that the local Wall Mart management hasn’t got a handle
on it up to now.
If the problem is the local management which would be the only thing
that it could be then that will change.
Large retailers are in business to make a profit, so these vague rumors
of palates of new merchandise in the dump seem a bit questionable.
Shop lifting is a fact of life in retail sales but the stories of staff unable to
stop it in this particular store needs to be handled by the manager, if he/she
still is the manager.
Last time I walked out of there, the buzzer went off again. It went off two minutes before while I was standing in line. And again twice while I was shopping. Their security “scanners” are so random and wrong with them distracting the employees you could take entire 3-Ring Circus out the back, with a horny elephant to boot.
I chuckled and shrugged my shoulders about the alarm. I got out the doors and someone yelled security. God, what a bunch of amatuers. I had already spent approaching 8 minutes in line (4 people…eight minutes…really?) To think I’ve spent a couple thousand there since they opened! Shelves are really picked over and the mens clothes are a JOKE. Was really hoping they would have a good selection for men’s clothes NOT 3/4’s of a store of GROCERIES that we can get down the street at Safeway.
If they close, I wouldn’t be surprised. Although, that would be ONE HEFTY BREACH OF LEASE payment I would imagine.
They won’t close. But geez it shows the lack of respect and morals in this town that allows such vagrant shoplifting. Who teaches their children that its ok to disobey the law. There’s more I would like to say but I would wind up saying something that could/would get me caught with my foot in my mouth.
I don’t believe that, I believe some addicts do it to get their next fix. But a lot do it for the thrill, they think they are smart to be able to get away with it.
I can relate to the foot comment “Gracies Mom” so will tread lightly! The store is a disaster, no respect at all and when you consider how enthusiastic the community was for its’ opening here, very sad. Strange, the big guys were in tourng the store about a month or so ago and obviously were not concerned as there haven’t been any positive changes. Last time I was in there to scour the aisles for a dish towel, no luck, there was a drunk couple wandering around, accosting various people around the tills and nothing done. As for the shoplifting, when you see families in NO 1 filling orders for what they want from the store, for free, I guess it is a safe bet, they aren’t taught those lessons. I guess one hand feeds the other. I don’t bother with it at all now, ladies wear is crap and anything else I need I can get somewhere else in town, includng a dish towel, thank you Dollarama !! I have to wonder though, with all these complaints, how long will they keep a store open that eventually will see more losses than gains? Folks are always chatting about the port and the high paying jobs bringing money into the town, I think, real estate excluded, as they want nice places to live, they are heading south monthly to do their shopping! That mght partially explain the rise in passengers last year!
