Haha. Shortly after my rant Fed Ex let me know that I’ll get it in 1-2 hours. I literally had no tracking information since Friday. I prefer UPS or Canada Post.
FedEx gets it’s Last Mile to here through this Mennonite guy in a beat up old 1980s Econoline. I think he also picks up amazon returns, they won’t go the last last mile to a friend’s house so she calls them and leaves them on my porch here in town. Everyone has to pick up their amazon orders at the Post Office.
So I went to Prince George Costco, BestBuy, Staples and London Drugs and came home with only Kirkland coffee, a huge box of Cranberry/Oat cereal and some leftover Hot&sour soup and chili chicken.
Couldn’t find anything to buy so I bought the kids dinner.
Even checked out some car dealer lots… nothing exciting at all there either.

The iPhone 15+ showed up four hours later than I expected. It was delivered by a very friendly, young frazzled courier who was behind the eight ball. She had to drop off a boat load of packages before heading back to Terrace.
At this point in time I feel pleasantly locked in to the Apple ecosystem. I’m amazed at how seamlessly everything just works. Setting up a new phone from my iCloud back-up is a joy. No hiccups, glitches, or stupid s#*t to speak of. All done painlessly. Apple care activated automatically on initial set-up.
My iPhone 14 Pro Max will be re-set today and become my wife’s daily driver. The ancient iPhone 8+ will join my growing technology graveyard. In a few years I’ll recycle that unit with Apple on my next purchase and maybe get a few bucks for it.

Was looking at prices of iPhone 15+ and stumbled across Telus’s summer sale ad that pissed me enuff to get hold of them. As loyalty customer w landline, cable net, cell service and seniors pension all from Telus they worked me out one hell of a deal.
I will now get 75Gig instead of 15 AND a new non bring it back iPhone 15+ for $10 a month less than I pay now with my own phone!!! Thank you thank you thank you! The phone should get here by Aug 8.
BTW Temu says they have the 15 for 90% off. In another Temu ad on the same page says they cost $2.23… sure sure everyday, we know it’s ok (as we used to say in Jr High)

I finally got off my butt yesterday and encouraged my wife to move from her aging iPhone 8+ to my newer iPhone 14 Pro Max. The operation was painless and went without a hitch. She likes her new phone. It has Apple Care+ until November.
It’s interesting and amazing to note how long Apple supports their phones. The iPhone 8 and 8+ were released September 2017. Apple is terminating support for the 8+ next month, September 2024. That’s 7 years of OS updates and security patches! No one else does this.
I got another PC in that says I must change the computer login password… it was set up with no password on a local account. I’ve only seen that one other time with Winduhs 10.
So I changed it to 1234. Once it was booted I changed it back to blank.
Somewhere I saw online this is supposed to happen every 60 days, but neither of my PCs ever did this. I’m wondering if perhaps the Rufus installer USB that sets up with a local ‘owner’ account is the cause?
I haven’t taken too many photos with my iPhone 15+, it seems to work well. I’m really enjoying Netflix on my old 42" Samsung TV, the $59 Amazon Firestick is amazing. I’m hoping for some newer content on Netflix…soon. Haha.

The old KINOVO 3 port HDMI switch first allowed me to wire up my old Apple TV. Now that I’ve retired the Apple TV(Netflix retired it) I still use the switch. I currently have my CityWest TV cable box, a Blu Ray player, and the Amazon Firestick hooked up to the KINIVO switch. It gives me probably 1080p resolution which is good enough for my old eyes.
The iPhone 15+ arrived! Charging it up now.
Great, spend the aft setting it up instead of mowing the lawn…
Well that was an hour or so setting up. Now what?
Hoped it did something new, only upgraded as it was included in a bigger cheaper pkg deal.
No calls so far, only 1 amazon confirmation to order a case for it. Tomorrow I’ll go take a few pics with it and post the 10XR for sale.
The one new thing that MiG pointed out to me on the 15+ is that you can set the battery to stop charging at 80% to increase battery health. I’ve enabled that.
Good God I’m geezing out.
Took ages on the XR to find the hole for the SIM card, Like DUH I had to remove the protector case…
Then I wondered why no calls, checked and I missed 4. DUH again, ringer switched off. Haven’t used the ringer on/off since my daughter’s wedding 2 summers ago.
A friend also lectured me over lunch. Said he’d be back when it cools down to mow my lawn - don’t even try Old Man.

So here’s what it looks like after almost a year…
The battery is the last thing I think about now. Some days I don’t even charge it. It gets charged when I’m in the car (and it’s plugged in), or if I remember to plug it in overnight. Usually I don’t.
80% is more than enough for a full day and then some.
I’ve noticed that once a month or so, it will charge to 100% anyway. I guess this is for calibration reasons.
In the year I’ve had the phone, it’s only dropped below 20% on two occasions, and it’s never run out in a day.

The battery was the main reason I looked to upgrade. The XR was dead far too often and I was lucky to get 8hrs use from full.
Plugged this one into the Mac Mini the day before yesterday, still have 70%
OK so I use it as a phone and sometimes a camera. The computer chair’s too comfy an that 28" curved screen more inviting than a 6.6" one.
Gotta admit, it’s far more readable than the old XR. Tried the browser and it’s way nicer, faster, brighter etc. My PhpBB site’s even useable and so is fortstjames.com that redirects to a mobile version. I do like this 15+

So OMG I listed my 10xr on FB and the stupid thing put it on Bulkley-Bechako Marketplace instead of just here in the Fort. Asked 175 on a Buy&Sell which means “make a f*cking offer stupid”.
Of course I got one of the townies that squeaks when they walk offering $50. Replied that they make Android for people that can’t afford iPhones.
Three inquiries asking if I’d deliver like to Smithers FFS only 6 hour round trip and $100 gas away and such. Meet you behind the billboard on that dark empty stretch of Hwy 16, K?
I wouldn’t use FB except for the fact it’s about the ONLY thing 90% of people use. I miss 30 years ago when I publlshed the Fort Flyer buy & sell paper in my basement.
I love free and open source software. I am regularly reminded that M$ is evil with their embrace and extinguish business model. Lately M$ says they love Linux (although Ballmer characterized it as a cancer years ago). They release their own version of Linux while consistently working towards locking Linux out of the installation process. Thankfully Linux is staying a bit ahead of the curve and we can disable secure boot. If and when it becomes impossible to install Linux hopefully PC makers will build open hardware for us.
As annoying as trying to install it on a Chromebook? They’d love that.
Got rid of it! Rewrote the ad yesterday to blow off out of towners and locals thinking it was a desperation sale by a Jonesing crackhead and it went at lunchtime to a guy with a job and a cracked screen on his 10XR.
So Debian 12.6.0 is gone from my Lenovo T14 laptop. I had screen flickering and the occasional freeze-up. I installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on the unit which throws a crap-tonne of proprietary drivers at the unit.
