Re: CityWest Speed Problems (May 2007)

Almost back to normal speeds for me this afternoon.  Including a really low ping.  Hope it stays…

wow hitest i did a speed test this afternoon and it was about the same as this morning? I noticed I have 3 ip’s and I have one ip that is faster then the rest, I use this one for my torrents. I played around with the  TCP stack; I use Dr TCP to play with my settings.

Sigh…it has come up a bit, but, it still sucks badly.

That’s just great. So if I want to play some BF2142 I have to either stay up really late or get up really early. The way this is going I think I should be paying Citywest on a sliding scale. Pay the full monthly rate when I get full bandwidth and pay like 10% of that rate during prime time hours when I get next to nothing.

LOL, geez you might be on to something…

Imagine if your cablevision ran on this principle, in the early mornings when the infomercials are on the screen is nice and clear, the audio perfect. But at 8:00 at night, just as the Canucks go into overtime, suddenly the screen gets snowy and the sound is garbled. Hmmm, wonder how long it would be before somebody fixed the problem…

Of course I suspect that most would just join the sat tv revolution, I’ve been on the dish for over a year now and have not a regret since signing up, the selection has been ten times better, the quality of the picture great as well.

Guess that’s why i see so many dishes on what seems like every second house in town, wonder what would happen if we had a worthy internet provider as competition…

You are on to something, CrazyMike!
This is insane, we are being charged for high-speed Internet, but, we are getting dial-up speeds.  We should be charged for the actual bandwidth that we receive.

That’s a dangerous road to start down…

If you really want to be charged for bandwidth, then you’ll be shocked at how much it really costs.  Would you rather have download limits?  How many gigs a month should you get for free?  How much before you’re charged extra?

i agree with Mig,
from what I heard around when citywest were putting everything together, the screwed up, something that cant be undone with out alot of down time. its like this we (citywest have adsl you can have an 8 meg modem but as more people get them your speed is going to fail, and becouse we only have x amount of bandwidth its only a matter of time; ohh and by the way becouse we screwd up on how we haddle the Ip’s and other things its not going to get better…sorry please pay your 65.00 to front desk.

Well all I know is I pay $50 for “3 to 5 megs” of download speed. I’m not getting it. I haven’t been getting it for quite some time. It looks like I’m not going to get it for quite some time. Maybe they should change their rate schedule so that it says “3 to 5 megs whenever no one else is using it.”

So order a real line. A  ‘guaranteed’ 5 Mb line can be installed in your home for as little as $2000 installation and about $1500 a month. They’ll even toss in 100 Gigs of traffic “free”…

Yeah, you’re right!  Good point!

Ouch. :astonished:
Well-said, herbie.

since some of you seem to be gamers like myself you must have but have you done all the tweeks to get every last bit out of your sys? i know there were some that made a big dif in my net speeds.

 my speeds this morning 1/2 for 700 megs.
