Re: Chances

you make me laugh out loud sometimes bro with that rick ashley song…touche

Went to Chances yesterday, had some draft beer.  Chances looks very slick, plasma TV screens everywhere, very comfortable furniture, and friendly, pleasant staff.  The beer is a bit more expensive than my usual watering hole (Breakers), about $5.75 for a pint.

But do they have Lucky Lager?

Hmmmmm…not sure about that…I had some Kokanee Light.

You may win some of the time,  but not all the time.  Here is a few things I thought we might find interesting.

"The losing blank stops above and below the jackpot image may correspond to more virtual stops than other images. Consequently, a player is most likely to hit the blank stops right next to the winning stop.  :imp:This creates the impression that they “just missed” the jackpot, which encourages them to keep gambling, :imp: even though the proximity of the actual stops is inconsequential.

A machine’s program is carefully designed and tested to achieve a certain payback percentage. The payback percentage is the percentage of the money that is put in that is eventually paid out to the player.

In most gambling jurisdictions, the law requires that payback percentages be above a certain level (usually somewhere around 75 percent). The payback percentage in most casino machines is much higher than the minimum – often in the 90- to 97-percent range. Casinos don’t want their machines to be a lot tighter than their competitors’ machines or the players will take their business elsewhere.

The odds for a particular slot machine are built into the program on the machine’s computer chip. In most cases, the casino cannot change the odds on a machine without replacing this chip. Despite popular opinion, there is no way for the casino to instantly “tighten up” a machine.

Machines don’t loosen up on their own either. That is, they aren’t more likely to pay the longer you play. Since the computer always pulls up new random numbers, you have exactly the same chance of hitting the jackpot every single time you pull the handle. The idea that a machine can be “ready to pay” is all in the player’s head, at least in the standard system.

Psychological and financial incentives
Casinos are some of the most profitable businesses in the world which do not produce a product. Although casinos are highly regulated by government agencies to reduce scams and cheating, the public is seldom aware of the odds of winning any particular game. Casinos have mastered the art of temptation. A barrage of psychological and economic incentives are designed to part you from your money.

Psychological Incentives:

String along the customer by providing small prizes that encourage continued betting for a big jackpot.
Offer hourly prizes that must be claimed within 30 minutes. This technique keeps the customer in the casino.
Require the customer to insert a casino ID card into a slot machine to qualify for hourly prizes. Although there may not be a requirement to gamble, once the card is in, the customer may actually feed the machine.
Fill the room with happy loud sounds like the tinkling of coins and simple ditties for winning bets and quiet short sounds for losing bets.
Use hypnotic rotating wheels or video displays with flashing images to hold the customer’s attention.
Program “near misses” in slot machine displays to make customers think that they were close to winning thereby encouraging further play.
Provide a low lighting level and no clocks to relax the customers and make them lose track of time.

Casinos offer non-stop action 24/7

Financial Incentives:

Casinos offer memberships with benefits based on play time and money spent to make the customer feel that they get something in return even if they lose their money gambling.
Gambling activities generate reward points that can be used for additional bets or for purchasing food or amenities at the casino
Frequent gamblers receive offers for vacations at out-of-town associated gambling establishments
High level members receive priority access to hotel, spa, and restaurant facilities
Previous winners are invited back to the casino with attractive offers. The casinos hope to recover some of the money that they paid out to the winners.

Not that I won’t go myself,  but we can see how this might be a negative effect on our town.

I heard the white tiger that mauled Roy in Vegas is going to do a stand-up routine with His Worship Pond next week. Get your tickets quick! They’re trying to make the lost 5 large. But for now, we’ll be subsidizing the show until Skeena opens up next week. Should be good. Lots of great paying jobs.

Also,

they’re moving the proposed wind generating structures from Mt Hayes to Chances and they’re gonna be used as turn-stiles to control the masses of VTL addicts. Very progressive and will generate more power than wind.

And who says nothing ever happens in Shitzville? Oh yeah…me and you and…

Yawn. No surprises. It’s called smart business. EVERY business uses manipulative techniques.

I went to Chances last night for the first time. Pretty nice place. The food in the restaurant was pricey, but it was also very high quality. I had the halibut and my wife had the chicken and they were both dishes we would order again. All added up we got out of there for $80 including a desert we shared and our iced tea.

Ultimately it was free though since my wife and I both had $20 to gamble with. I burnt through mine in a matter of seconds. (As I always do with slots) and my wife ends up turning her $20 into $150. (As she always does with slots)

So we paid for dinner and the $40 gambling investment and still had enough left over for coffee.

ya doesn’t anybody think about the drug dealers around town?  how aer they supposed to make a living.

Well Im so glad to hear that everyone is winning at Chances. At this rate the doors should be closed in six months because they have gone bankrupted. Noone seems to lose there.

Oh I wouldn’t be too concerned about the financial success of the ole gamblin’ den, the day that BC Lotteries begins to lose more money than it takes in will be the same day that Armageddon comes a knockin’ at the door.

Until the, the house never loses, you can bet on that…

I don’t know what the rules are in BC about these things, but it sure wouldn’t be bad for business to have lots of people talking about winning at the slot machines. I mean, it’s not like they couldn’t loosen up the slots for now and then tighten them up later when people have had a chance to spread the word.

I told my wife that from now on we gamble first. If we win, dinner in the Chances restaurant. If we lose, dinner at Pizza Hut…lol

If you lose too much it will be dinner at the Safeway Deli…

Well they do make pretty good sandwiches.
