Lowering the voting age to 16...?

I agree that 16 year olds shouldn’t vote. I mean, 18 is only a couple years away anyway. At 16, I didn’t give a shit about politics because I was busy enjoying what was left of my childhood. If sixteen year olds aren’t allowed to buy alcohol, cigarettes and porn, why should they be able to vote? Bah, I guess that is just the way I think of it. After 18, you can vote all you want, along with doing every other adult thing.

goobylicious and timbits… read the link i posted in response to corrupt_files argument. you’re all arguing that since you were a dipshit at 16, every 16 year old is a dipshit.

I could argue that because there are lots of idiot adults, that all adults are idiots.

you’re all committing the same fallacy as corrupt_file was/is!!!

IT IS NOT A COGENT ARGUMENT. COME UP WITH SOMETHING ELSE!!!

as bigthumb pointed out, adults are tricked just as easily (IF NOT EASIER) than teenagers.

Maybe I am just a confrontational jackass, but I think that if I had a teacher in grade 8 who was teaching me that the liberals or conservatives or rhinocerous party was the bomb shiznaz, i would be analyzing that opinion and cutting it into pieces every chance I could!! I’ve never taken any opinion without analyzing it through my own filters.

People should learn to think for themselves and maybe a good way to do that is to have other people lay out their opinion, so the other person can develop theres by bouncing their own ideas off of it.

this post is too long. i think i drank too much coffee this morning.

anyway. PRO TIP: FOR KIDS IN PHYSICS…get your teacher to explain “Mach’s Principle” as visualized by einstein. if he cant explain it, the class is a waste unless you’re gonna join the artillery in the army.

Aiight there molten… I understand what your saying and If you read my post correctly… You would notice a key part “Im sure some or alot do, but what about the ones that know nothing. that would vote for say the coolest name.”

I know that there are plently of Highly educated 16-17 year olds… I also belive that since your still a teenager and basically got Teenage stuff to deal with why throw the whole Voting thing down… Just throws another curve in teens lifes. Now instead of worrying about school there worrying about politics exc, which im not saying is a bad thing at all… Maybe if this lowering the vote happened We could get some bright kids into the system and possibly help out… Im not totally agaist it… I just belive that theres alot to do as a teen already why worry about voting…

I met Paul Martin yesterday, he came to the RCMP Training Academy and gave a little speech with the Minister of Finance. I held the door and saluted.

He said “How are you today?”

I said “Good, Sir.”

We had a moment.

Seriously though, I thought it was going to be a big PR move on his part in light of last week, but he didn’t notify any media, the only photographer there was his. He spoke quite well, I was impressed.

Who pissed in your cornflakes? I was certainly not a dipshit at 16…there was a lot of important decisions I had to make. I had plenty of political knowledge at that age, I’m just saying, I didn’t care about it then. My one vote will certianly never make a difference. And, this is my own opinion.

And Eso…hilarious post there. Steak and blowjob day? Sounds like a man’s dream.

I agree that it* could* be taught in school, but maybe an extracurricular course would keep people focussed and help them remember that it is serious.

I disagree about teachers being impartial. I think teachers should be allowed to be personal, and impartial, but HONEST. I think students pick up more when the teacher is involved, and a good civics/soc.studies teacher should be able to explain both sides intelligently - which is the goal of this whole exercise in the first place isn’t it?

I think what you guys are forgetting is that molten universe is right,

That was the greatest thing ever said.

‘budget day’… had chuck steak, don’t wanna think about the heh heh…
you’re a pussy if you’re having your political beliefs being unduly influenced by your parents.

body language??? did they hit you when you used your left hand or something? brainwashing you through semaphore? i dont get it.

if your parents were seriously using body language to influence you poltically… http://kidshelp.sympatico.ca/en/

or maybe i dont get it. or maybe you didnt get your post across. you’re still committing a fallacy in my books.
