Hst!

After living through the years with Willy Zahm at the helm I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined that I would agree with him.
I’ll be curious to see if the HST dissatisfaction gains any real traction.

Wilhelmus Nicholaas Theodore Marie “Bill” Vander Zalm figured very early in the game that going to bat against the HST would be an easily winnable cause/pursuit and in the process help him with his political comeback.  So don’t feel too bad about finding yourself agreeing with him.  You’re just agreeing with the idea/cause … not necessarily with the man.

I’ve not heard anything about lowering prices at the store I work at and the set fees my husband’s workplace charges consumers will be going up slightly to include the new tax even though the result in the long run will be that the business will make a little profit annually.

The petition against the HST was set up for signing in the downtown core here yesterday. I signed it not because I think the Libs will overturn the HST but because I think it’s more of a “message sent” than an email to the government or my MLA would be.

Yeah, I doubt he is doing this campaign for any altruistic, higher purpose.  Agreed. He will likely get a political pay-off, and the HST hurts him as a private business owner.

From the ‘Fight the HST’ list-serve:

The HST is not a done deal until the people of BC decide…

Despite the government’s attempts to make it seem like the HST is a done deal, nothing could be further from the truth  (I know – you’re shocked to hear this government may not be telling the truth again)

They said the HST was a done deal when they signed the agreement with Ottawa nine months ago. Then they said it was a done deal in December when Ottawa passed the federal legislation in Parliament. Now, they’re saying it is a done deal with the legislation removing the PST this past week.

But what can be enacted by government, can be repealed. We have known that part of their ‘trick’ was to spread out the passage of this new tax as long as they could to try to thwart your efforts to stop it – that is why our petition is to REPEAL the HST. The bill you are signing when you sign the anti-HST Initiative petition is to cancel the HST Agreement BC signed with Ottawa last year.

By successfully completing the Initiative petition, we will be forcing the government to either vote to cancel the HST Agreement, thereby repealing the HST, or put the question to a province wide referendum.

And just so you know, the HST was implemented in Saskatchewan in 1989, and two years after it was in effect, it was REPEALED by a new government, and the provincial sales tax reinstated. It’s not rocket science – its called democracy. And the HST is not a “done dealâ€

Just curious what party you like Jesus?. CHP, BC Communist’s,ballot spoiler’s. No, you lean to the far left, the party of one. Although I do find your profanity laced ramblings entertaining. The fact remains until Canadians make some hard choices on healthcare, social program(welfare),foreign aid, infrastructure, military(we need one) the taxes seem to have only one way to go,UP. No matter what they call them, they will go up. We need a new name for taxes, something to make them more appealing.LOL

Well see there is no party I support and in fact I disagree with the entire party system. I offer no suggestions as to what system would be better but clearly ours is very flawed and we need to find a way to restore our power as voters because we’ve completely lost control.

Taxes do not need to go up we need to stop adding levels of bureaucracy and paying each level hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. I’m sorry but we do not need a minister of then an assistant to the minister of… then the assistant to the assistant to the minister of… all making 100k+/yr.

Our healthcare system is a perfect example of bureaucracy gone wild.

I’m curious to wonder why you think Jesus is a socialist extremist.

Can I assume you’re one of the few who’re still stuck in the Cold War era and well indoctrinated by McCarthyism?

lol

you fucking commie I see that red.

Agreed, government was not set up to make the people elected Wealthy or upper class. It makes them think we serve them and not the other way around,Too late I guess. As for healtcare I like it, it is a massive black hole but that is our faults for going to the ER for a sniffle or broken fingernail. Jesus, Did you pay for your baby to be born?. And let’s all hope it is intact when we are in need, just like CPP, and old age pension LOL. Just glad to hear that basically anyone who voted by your standards is a fucking moron. I got my answer PLA, he is a party of one. A rebel without a clue.

Down with Jesus and his capitalistic imperialists and…

lol

I’m sure some of the hundreds of thousands of dollars I’ve paid in taxes for services I have never used (with the exception of highways) more than paid for my daughters birth. I’ve used our medical system once in the past 20 years and that was just to get a prescription for champix (which I paid for outright thanks).

I’m sorry but if you voted for the BC liberals you ARE a moron… doubly and triply so if you voted for them again and again. It was pretty clear from the get go what they were about so if you think I am without a clue that is your prerogative but I will kindly disagree.

Not a liberal voter, nor Commie or sympathizer. I too have paid my share of taxes and used little resource’s (knock on wood). Nor do I disagree that the HST is crazy as hell, but we seem to be stuck in the middle. Maybe it is time to move to Saskatchewan, they have PST/GST but they also have there own party LOL.

Spent Saturday composing an insert explaining that increasing my costs by $1 a customer by losing my commissions, having to hire a bookkeeper extra hours to change the system, requiring me to add extra lines in the invoices for prepaid services delivered after July 1st, and requiring me to reserve 7% more cash for monthly purchasing does not equal a cheaper price for them.
That gobbled a couple hours where I could have been making money too.
Small increase in prices.
We also donate a portion of some revenue regularly to a community group, so I’m going to mark that portion out. Customers won’t pay 40 odd cents tax on what we donate anymore.

I want one of those T shirts.

All I can say on this matter is fucking what the fucking hell who gave the newly appointed elections officer the power to take away our right to democracy. Today we found out two things for fact.

  1. what little democracy we have can be overturned by a single man appointed by a corrupt government. This needs to change.
  2. Corporations run our corrupt governments.

These two things arent a surprise but its a sad day to have these confirmed as fact and thrown right in your face like they cant even be bothered to pretend to hide it anymore.

Fuck gordon campbell and fuck the fucking retards who voted for him.

Fucking assholes.

Not quite that simple Jesus. Every party has their fair share of shortcomings and bad trends. NDP spend spend spend. Liberals balance and cut (and scandal). Conservatives are too far to the right for many visible minorities and also play dirty - But provide better economic management. Balance of power between all three parties is needed in this country. Unless you like civil unrest?

Conservatives and Mulroney stacked the senate to bring in the GST in 1990. Every party needs to be kept in check, constantly.

Even worse, the NDP keeps electing leaders who look like they could be your next door neighbour.
Until they’ll accept one with a permanently affixed sneer, shit-eating phoney grin, or chin the size of Jay Leno how are we to know they’re legit politicians? If they don’t look like a scum-sucking liars how can anyone fulfill their self-fulfilling prophecies by voting for them?

Agreed. The NDP is my party, but, I will be the first to admit that James is not an adequate politician, Gordan beats her hands down in that department. Campbell is a liar (hiding his intentions to introduce the HST prior to the election) and an exceptional politician, campaigner. My party needs someone who is a good bullshit artist. I think that James needs to go before 2013. The NDP has a good shot at winning the election in 2013 (with new leadership) now that Campbell has indicated that he will ignore the results of the anti-HST campaign.
