Nice. I have “Premium” ADSL. You on Cable?

Citywest is now offering “quantum Internet” in Terrace. Same in Rupert?

10meg and 15meg cable. I guess to compete with Telus.

Not sure who thought up the name “quantum” though. Maybe they should have looked up the definition. Citywest’s Internet has improved by the smallest measurable amount! Quantum Internet!

Too bad I’m moving, because I would have totally ordered the 15meg and cancelled cable. Now that Al Jazeera owns the rights to Spanish, Italian, and French soccer, and they have no plans to air it on Canadian TV, there’s no reason for me to have cable anymore

yes 10 meg quantum Internet, I just finished setting up a media center computer running XBMC that can view all Tv shows we would regular watch on cable we can watch online, I also set up my boxee box with a an American Ip so we can get hulu, netflix and another American network station online. XMBC is very powerful and can do some amazing things I set up cinema experience on it, just like the movie theater, virtual curtains open up, a few previews play, then the movie and at the end the curtains close. the kids just love it when we put it on the projector and watch on the 10 screen.

Yes looks like P.Rupert is finally improving a little bit

Cool. One of the things that I like with my account is that I have a static IP address if I wish to run a home server. Does the Quantum service offer static IP addresses?

i dont think so hitest…

Thanks for the reply, Astro.

hitest, you can do the dynamic dns stuff to run a server, perhaps? What kind of router you using?

Despite the name (very small internet!), it’s a good upgrade. Is 15meg available in Rupert, Astro?

I tried to look on the citywest site, but got this instead:

Yes MiG we can get 15 Meg in Rupert, I was going to go that route but thought I would try the 10 Meg first…

I’ll look into the dynamic dns stuff, thanks MiG:) I’m running a pfSense router (which is an old PIII 667 MHz IBM box).

Even though they give out IPs by DHCP on cable, I’ve had the same IP for 2.5 years. Has never changed.

what are they charging for 15 or 10 megs? when did they start this, I was told last month that 5mbps was the fastest we had?

I would tell you to check the Citywest website but …

As my teenager would say…

just like citywest upgrade the internet speeds for consumers but don’t tell consumers about it, and their website is screwed up sheesh, did find something via google, 15meg is about $5 more with the bundle over the 5meg DSL so triple the speed for $5 more. yep wouldn’t want their customers to know about that at all
