How Fast is your Download Speed?

Is it a 5meg connection? And only getting 3megs to a local server?

Try a vancouver speedtest server to test it instead. Not really much of a test to go across town.

I’m running at about half speed here, but it’s to be expected at peak times, when everyone’s online. Including the “light users” hehe.

If the server’s on CityWest it’s the only way to test just your DSL.
I’ve got a mini-test here to test our wireless links. Office to my house running 8.9 and 7.8 up at the moment.
Someone try it from Rupert, it’s on a 30Mb uplink

Dunno what you’re all complaining about, I never get more than 2. Usually in the ones… And I’ve asked about getting a better connection, they have no solutions for me, apparently I’m too far away, or some other excuse I didn’t bother to remember…

A bit odd. My speedtest to the Vancouver server is a bit faster.

Slower then %70 of canada. that sucks considering prince rupert was one one of the first towns in BC to offer DSL (that i know of)

Take into account where the majority of Canadians live - big cities. I lived all over the mainland until I was 35 and never was more than a 10 minute stroll to the nearest central telephone office. When I first worked for BC Tel, my ex worked in one of the first areas to get a fibre connected CO. For about six months she was winning those call in radio things all the time. Concert tickets, free dinners, $100 here and there.
When we first got ADSL, I was paying for a ‘premium’ 2.5Mb line, my friend in PG was already getting close to 5Mb downloads through cable.

When we first got into real broadband the guys from Ottawa used speakeasy Seattle as their measurement base
8.55Mb 7.58 Mb

speedtest.net Vancouver
10.14Mb 7.12Mb
Then I ran into a dickwad manager from that unmentioned native band that insisted on using tree frog to ‘prove’ their Internet was shitty and they shouldn’t have to pay their bills
374 Kb down (It’s in friggin’ Australia)
Or the guy would use inter frog
won’t even work, it’s in the UK and the whole page is ads for ‘speed enhancers’ ‘faster, better ISPs’, etc.

These test were run one after another.

Pretty clear I’ve got about 10Mb, but how come a few times a week the front page of the Province, the Sun, the National Post often take 3-5 mins to load, but the PG Citizen loads faster than a blink? It’s NOT the ISP.
There’s people here who think some guy sits at a 1950 style control panel covered with knobs and turns them up and down all day. Turn Facebook down for Customer #1345. Speed up MS update for customer #357. Make it so customer #982 can only use Firefox!

Using the wi-fi tethering feature of my aging HTC Desire on the Telus network…

In the middle of the forest, somewhere about 70Km south of Valleyview, AB.

Ridiculous. Don’t even know what to say. bullshit!!! perhaps?

Heh…that is outstanding:)

My test for today.

And still full of ads for “get faster Internet”…

Heh-heh. Yep. Because 300+ MB/Sec is not quite fast enough. Ridiculous indeed.

The 1st one was taken from the wireless network at the Ramada Inn in Kelowna on Monday.
The next one was at 7:30am this morning here in PR. “Premium” DSL.

Well yeah it’s Shaw. We can’t expect much from Citywest thats for sure.

This is getting ridiculously worse!!! Went from almost 4Mb/s a few days ago to 1.55Mb/s!!!
