Another Beer and Wine store

there might be a few bad mouthers but then there is Ajaye how is guaranteed to make you laugh hehe

lol. Yeah, I have had many a chuckle over Ajaye’s comments and the largely tolerant, yet witty responses.

Yes, I was there when the two Ken’s first installed the chicken, rib, tater cooker. Can’t remember the franchise name, (was it Chubby Chicken??) but the thought of them still makes me drool, figuratively.

As for Prince Rupert having hit the bottom because of population decline, I had an old Encyclopedia from the late '40’s early '50’s. Population was larger than Prince George at the time due to the wartime efforts of protecting the west coast from a possible invasion, a launching point for troops, and building a supply line for the Americans. Population then declined but was somewhat supported by the fishing and canning industries. When I moved there in 1979, they were already starting to shut down those facilities and those that depended on it started moving away. Then they built the grain and coal terminal. We all thought that the streets were going to be paved with gold. Never happened, and as a matter of fact, we went into a recession. More people moved away. Heck, we couldn’t even get a McDonald’s franchise to move in! And from everything that I have been reading on this site it is getting worse. Still the same hopes, and the same eventual disappointments, or so I read. I’m not really qualified to comment intelligently on the current situation, as I’m only reading the opinions of more informed residents, such as Ayjaye (tongue firmly planted in cheek).

My somewhat convoluted point is, people in Pr. Rupert have historically expected better, have been promised better, and the rug is usually pulled out from under them. What gives? It is the most northern, year round, ice free port on the west coast. That port is days closer to Asian markets than typical shipping points. It is serviced by a rail line that is dependable most days of the year. The infrastructure is in place. Qualified people are ready to work, unless they joined the mass exodus, in which case I’m sure they would be back in an instant if the jobs were there. If great military minds in the '40’s (hey, we won!) determined that Pr. Rupert was THE place to invest a great deal of effort into to win the war through easy shipping, what has changed in the meantime? It should be THE port in western Canada. And Cutter, I hope that the bottom has been reached and Rupert will experience an upswing. But I am reminded of a sign I read outside of a town on Vancouver Island. “Last one to leave please turn out the lights”.

Sorry to digress from the main subject matter of B&W stores. I worked for beer today. lol So where is the new store located that some people are complaining about? Addresses mean nothing to me after 30 years. What is located nearby that will be adversely affected>

Is prince rupert still qualified to be called a city? less than 13,000 people no dairy queen no kentucky fried chicken and no newspaper. I don’t mind no newspaper but no kfc or dq? that just don’t work for me

There is a newspaper, it’s called the northern view…

It’s like saying Fort Nelson shouldn’t be qualified to be called a town because it has no McDs, Timmies, Canadian Tire, and even a new vehicle dealership. Despite the fact it has a metro population of over 7000 6000.

Kinda mind bogging that a town larger than Vanderhoof doesn’t have Timmies though. O_o

I guess if I was serious I could google the answer to the difference between a town and a city. I just cant get over the fact rupert has no kfc or dairy queen.

This makes me sad for Pluto:(

I see today that employees seem to be in the store stocking and training for the soon to be open Liquor Warehouse… Word is that all or most stuff will be at Liquor store prices and they will be offering delivery… Belmont Beer and Wine has reduced it’s beer prices… So at a time when so many things are going up in cost the Liquor Market is becoming more competitive… I still find it sad that we have another Liquor establishment but I am in a minority…I bet they will do well at that location…

will this be the name of the Beer&Wine on Park Ave “Liquor Warehouse” ?

Maybe this is just me but it seems rather sad and a little pathetic that a liquor store is now known as a warehouse! I imagine customers walking out carrying their wares in brown paper bags and their wine in those oh so fancy boxes. Aaaargh ! We did not need another booze outlet, not here !

I agree whole heartedly cody bear but we seem to be in a minority… It will indeed be called “Liqour Warehouse”

What we really need is another Pizza joint or another hair dresser shop. I question why city council has no say in this brain wave. Do we not have enough problems with Substance Abuse and is that not near where the Transition House plan on building? So another hurdle for the women who may need some safety net and space.

I’ve seen liquor warehouse types of stores in the Okanagan. What made me notice was the colour flyer in the local newspapers. When did the laws change concerning advertising alcohol?

That’s awesome that they will deliver.

About 7 years ago if my memory serves me I took my first ad in a paper with the price of booze advertised.

OMG !!!

It’s not as though people are going to start rampant drinking because there is another Beer and Wine store in town. Big deal if someone has the cohoones to open a buis. in this town , all the power to them and good luck!

what surprises me is that council allows the owner of the liquor warehouse (Stu Ramsey) to open another business in Prince Rupert, who is stu ramsey, he is one of the partners in Chances and the Coast Hotel, both of these companies owe the city of Prince Rupert for several years of back taxes, how can someone continue to open new businesses when they have not paid their obligations. i know i wont be supporting this new business

he got bought out of his Coast Hotel share by the his partner and the Kitkatla band if i’m right, part of the money was the beer and wine store license that used to belong to Solly’s, not sure if he is still involved with the Casino though, but I doubt it
