And for Mayor

Well not that you are asking me, but he did improve our relationship with the State of Alaska which has suffered some rather traumatic and troublesome issues in the past.

While I have many questions for some of the policies of the soon to be former Mayor, to be fair he did have some positive aspects to his admininistration.

I mean we do need to keep some semblance of balance about here…

Mayor Pond isn’t running, Council Watch–I’m not going to argue with you about a non-issue. I made no comments about the virtues of Mayor Pond, I stated something that I believe to be true and sought out corroboration. If you thought that I meant that you deliberately told fibs, I didn’t. I was merely pointing out the scrutiny that my small comment got versus comments you often make that go unchecked. That’s all.

Point taken.

Wow, I’m impressed with how brave our lil sniper is! :sunglasses:

Sigh. Just sigh. I didn’t mean to get under your skin so much–we should keep our sillyness to one thread, I think.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Speaking of travel or Pond and his travels, I am trying to remember if when I was sitting in the chamber and when I or we had to travel, if we kept our air miles points? Shit I wonder how many Herbie gathered for himself and he is not finished yet. “The Pond is just about dried up and the boom is so distant.”

Pondunk is correct.  Herb marketed this town all over the world.  He laid the ground work for the new rupert.  Will make Jacks new job a little easier.

He sure as hell wasnt a John Kuz…who just ran up the city credit card at the belmont.  John didnt get roasted like herb has been roasted here…

Thats because there are a certain few on HTMF who have a hard-on for Pond.  I think some of his critics should have put their name on the ballot just to see how well they would do.

No for Mr. Kuz, he just got fired…

And as far as Herb’s travellin’ ways, lets not get carried away and put words in my mouth…

Some of his travelling was for our benefit, ie: Alaskan trips to reinforce our importance to the Alaskan economy…  and I’ll grudgingly admit that the dog and pony shows of UBCM probably at least kept our profile alive with the lower mainland crowd that couldn’t find Rupert on a map…

Those were relatively inexpensive and could at least be identified as serving the city’s best interests.

But I Cant say the junkets to China, Japan and such with his buddies from PG, or the jaunts to America were particularly beneficial…

I mean the ships come here, the trains leave from here, not sure how the Mayor ,whoever he or she is, can change or add to that dynamic…

Now if we had seen some large industry arrive as part of those trips, with jobs and a real economy not this illusionary or constantly speculative one that we seem to have, then I would join in with you on the chorus of the “new rupert is here, lets give Herb a cheer”

As it is though the “new rupert” doesn’t look particularly on its way yet and in fact looks less likely than all that irrational exuberance of the last few years would indicate.  We seem to be regressing as far as jobs and social problems are concerned, and I’m Not particularly sure the groundwork for the “new Rupert” is on stable ground for the short term.

Yep thats right…then there are few who undoubtedly support the “concerned citizens” who are merely opportunists.  I mean, to start off by saying a council postion wasnt in the head lights initially, then to put the name forward is preposterous.  People should think before they speak and act.  I guess we will see at election time.  See how far the whistle blowing megalmaniacs do when the real concerned citizens cast their ballots.

Hmm check out the list of candidates for council I can identify at least two maybe three that were pretty outspoken about Mr. Pond in the last few months, they may not win but they will certainly present a different option for the voter in November

Ohhh yes we will have options.  Many options.

Rome wasnt built in a day.  But rupert crumbled in a day when the mill shut and the fishing industry went for a shit.
All I’m saying is that Herb was out there marketing the town all over the world.  And I think the benefits will show over the next 5yrs.

Pond never gave a shit about the social issues in this town because it was not worthy of photo ops and ribbon cutting. Met with him many times to discuss issues and he bullshit his way throughout the conversation. He forgot that to build a solid community we need proper foundation and that is a fore sure thing with social issues. He never cared nor will he ever. But tourists take pictures when off the boats and those photos are seen by friend relatives and word gets out  So he may have tried to market the town but he forgot some very important  points and now Jack or Scott will be taking it on hopefully they do have a morals but they are a real part of Rupert. Dam right I have it out for him.

Well …nows your chance to flood the candidates with your social issues and make an informed choise at the polls.
OUt of curiosity …what ar ethe social issues you had concerns with and are they with in the realms of a municipal politician?

They are most certainly a part if not a big part, they consist of many different issues which affect the wellness of a community, the raising of children and the education of all. I would say it has play for all three levels of government in a big way. I was going to put my name down as a candidate but due to health reasons I have been advised not to think of it. But I have all my questions ready for the all candidates thank you.

I agree with you and I am glad Pond is leaving… The problem is I dont see the replacement either Don or Jack doing anything about what you speak of as well…[/quote]

Well like I said earlier I have questions ready for the all candidates and I hope that someone will answer with their heart and not just as a wanna-a-be. The questions will be directed at the possible mayors as well. I will continue to fight the fight and if citizens get with me eventually then there may be reason.
