I used keyfinder.exe to get the XP key from the kid’s computer, wiped it and started the reinstall. Now the number comes up invalid…
Only thing I can think of is he lost the original CD (Pro w SP1) and I have only a copy of Pro w SP2 to use.

$200 lesson to put the friggin stick ON your computer? Or would that not have made a difference. I ran into the same problem with a Dell the other day, the number on the sticker came up invalid…

Did he even have an original CD? Maybe the key and software was downloaded to begin with…

Yeah. He swiped my shop copy and even activated & registered it to himself. Come to think of it is was pre SP1…
I think the keys for older XPs don’t work with later versions. I’m not about to keep 3 bloody version copies around just for repairs.
