Hey Fidel Castro,

You should be able to install XP over your Vista system with your XP CD that you purchased using the product key that came with it.

So the product key for Vista Basic should work with OEM XP Pro/Home?

I’m not sure about that, man.  I have heard that you can down-grade from Vista to XP.  I will step back from this thread and let any windows expert offer opinions about this.

OEM should have a product key with it, usually it just means that it doesn’t come with a box and manual.

Big Q is why?
You got an OS.
If you want another, make a partition and install Linux.
It’s a laptop. Fuck XP and forget it existed. Move on.

Well for one I don’t like Vista at all, its a preference thing. I would like to replace it with a OEM OS but I don’t know enough about OS’s so I decided to ask here for help. But thank you herbie for your positive post.

Yeah OEM will come with a key. There is no difference in how the OS functions. OEM OS’s are just versions that usually come bundled with hardware. They don’t come in the fancy box. Both my computers are currently running on OEM XP installs. One is XP home and the other XP Media Center.

The only real difference of course is that the OEM will generally be much cheaper.
