Windows XP Service Pack Deuce

Hey… new to the forum… Herbie’s NF Tech guy, I was just wondering if anyone had any problems with Windows Service Pack 2.

It doesn’t seem to be available. I installed the latest updates and I am still running SP1. Microsoft also keep saying on its website “…when it becomes available…”.

It is available just not for personal users.

It’s been working great for me so far. No mysterious crashes or anything like that. I also gotta say that I like the new built in firewall. It’s gotta be the least annoying firewall that I’ve ever used. If a port is blocked, and you want it open, one click, and it’ll never annoy you again.

However, the one thing that I did find annoying was the security advisor crap. I mean, if you’re a complete idiot, I’m sure it’ll be very helpful to you. Basically, if you don’t have the Windows firewall on, it’ll bitch at you (even if you use, say ZoneAlarm, or some other firewall). If you don’t have automatic updates on, it’ll bitch at you. If you don’t have any antivirus program installed, it’ll bitch at you. Even when I did put on Norton Antivirus 2004, it still bitches at me, because I guess it doesn’t work with the updater built into the security advisor.

I looked around… Is this the SP2 I should get for now?

What about my “purchased” serial number… does it check for cracked copies?

The Enterprise Edition serial that I’ve been using since SP1 came out worked just fine.

I doubt that the original Enterprise serial would work, since it was disallowed with SP1.

K, here’s a problem. People bring in their systems for service, and XP repair asks for serial #. If they don’t bring their XP disk, and lots didn’t get one (HP-COmpaq etc), they run a risk. My original burnt copy (i never use my original CD) wore out, and the original CD I sold to someone. My new XP CD has SP1 built in and if I use my backup to repair theirs, their serial # doesn’t work.
I use a little program getkey to grab the number off the HDD if the sticker is not mounted. If the number is a hack, too bad they can pay for my wasted time or buy a legit copy from me.
It seems that the serial #s from the preSP1 cds don’t work with a SP1 included repair.

Is that the a Corp.Keygen key? I hear they work for install, but won’t let you download updates.

I am waiting a little while before i get sp2.

As for firewall… i use sygate… it has never failed me.

I have a copy of SP2 but I haven’t installed it yet. When is the public release supposed to be?

It is publicly released. You could download it from the Microsoft site any time you wish. It’s available on Windows Update for Home Edition people, but not on Enterprise Editions yet.

Hm… my autoupdate has not informed me of such events.

Yeah, we just installed it here yesterday.

I just downloaded and installed SP2. It hasn’t harmed my computer, yet. Well, at least hasn’t harmed it in a way that I can notice. I want a mac.

Okay…bootup is very slow now

Indeed it does.

Has anyone else read the Wired story that states that Windows won’t be secure until 2011?
