Why you should vote this november

  1. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain about what the various elected officials decide to do or not to do.

  2. You are paying municipal fees and taxes - either directly or indirectly. You might as well exercise some control over how the revenues are spent

  3. You are paying school taxes - either directly or indirectly. You might as well exercise some control over how the funding is spent.

  4. Voting is a significant civic activity. Whether you like it or not, you are a part of this community. You may not volunteer; you may not join any of the many active groups in the community; you may not ever write a letter to the editor or post on a web board; and you may do all your shopping down the road… but at least fulfill your obligation to the community and vote. Learn about the candidates, make an informed decision and cast your ballot!

  5. Democracy is something that is earned and must be exercised if it is going to be kept. Recently, people in Libya, Egypt, Sudan, and Syria have lost their lives trying to obtain what you already have. Respect their sacrifice.

  6. “It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried” quote attributed to Sir Winston Churchill British politician (1874 - 1965)

8) It should not have to be mentioned but some folks have no sense of history… Remember that over the years, quite a number of Canadians, and the family members of immigrants have lost their lifes in the pursuit of democracy. Respect what they did. And while I am at it, get off your couch on November 11th - it is not just a holiday.
