I just set up my new creative Webcam Pro Ultra 4L to discover what a POS it was. Significantly more expensive ($100+) the thing does not do wide formats like advertised just the regular cheapo formats, plus 640X480 and will snap a single shot at 1280x960.
While that’s nice, the software is incrdibly poor, offering absolutely no control over the camera at all. I bought it to replace the old 3com HomeConnect that shot pics out our window of the main corner and mountainview, and it can’t shoot through the window glass outside. Nice picture if pointed inside, but that’s not what we want.
So if you want a camera with all the functionality of an idiot light on the dash of a 65 Pontiac, with a high-res feature only good for showing every zit on yer pimply face, this is the one to choose. I would return it, but I know a dozen people too dumb to work a combination lock that would pay for a webcam with ‘premium features’…
