Vacancy rate falls as rent rises

Following an eight per cent drop in the vacancy rate for apartments in the community, Prince Rupert no longer holds the distinction of having the second highest vacancy rate in the province.

Prince Rupert’s vacancy rate fell from 15 per cent at the end of last October to just eight per cent at the end of October 2008. That drop in vacancy is the second highest in the province behind only Kitimat, which fell from 21 per cent to 13.8 per cent to remain as the community with the highest vacancy rate in the province. Prince Rupert, meanwhile, is tied with Quesnel for the third highest vacancy rate in the province behind Kitimat and Fort St. John at 9.1 per cent.
