I don’t think they tore down that house on the corner to make way for expansion… it was just old and needed a lot of work.

If what I have been told is correct the house on the corner was torn down for a new access road to the gaming centre. Apparently The Crest was unhappy that the Legion was not sold to them and now are not going to allow access to the new gaming centre via their roadway and entrance. Also, I hear that the Legion building will be torn down and completely rebuilt.

I had heard the same thing, the crest was being pouty about the roadway access and the city had to come up with an alternate route, so the house was knocked down to make way. It was city owned anyway, old and really was an eyesore.

The crest also got a little nasty with the people who put in and started the Rain place I had heard causing some trouble with the contractors that worked on the place.

The Crest is kind of like the Mob. Don’t fuck wit 'em.

the crest is full of bitches…bitch bitch bitch…that’s all they ever did/will ever do.

I actually work at the Crest and this is a perfect example of rumours gone bad.

Fist off, the Crest was bidding on the Legion site but the owners bowed out of it. Realistically it wouldn’t have been economically feasable to do what they wanted to the facility.

Secondly, from what I understand, the gaming centre is using the driveway that exists there. The house may have been torn down for some kind of expansion of the parking lot or the facility itself. The city actually owns the bottom part of the driveway leading up to the Hotel, so we really had no say.

Thirdly, that crap with Rain was never true. There was supposedly some feud between us and Rain and we were banning our employees from going there. Crap crap crap.

We aren’t like the mob. We are very good friends with the mob, but we aren’t actually “family”.

rumours gone bad? since when have rumours turned out good? (especially in PR)

I heard the Crest serves baby instead of chicken.

Well, you see, there was this rumor about a container port coming to town . . .

Hey Stanley 19, the rumour may be a little exagerated, but not entirely untrue. I know the contractor in question personally that was helping with the renos at rain, and your boss Steve Smith did in fact try to coerce him, into stopping his work there. The arrogant shit. The story likely grew a bit from that incident.

The person that did the renos on rain were the owners, and paul cope… Paul being a good friend with owners… I doubt you even know what you’re talking about. I can’t even see how rain and the Crest could be compeating to even cause an argument like that, since rain is aiming at a younger, urban poppy croud, and The Crest is aiming at old people with more money than they know what to do with croud. On a side note, I don’t see how the Crest would even object to the gaming centre going next to them, since it’ll bring the crest more business. It was a win win situation for the crest. I love how people “heard” something, so it must be true… and its funny because even half the articles written in the daily news, are blobbed full of falsified information or half truths.

I don’t know anything about the supposed coercion by the Crest but you are wrong on the demographics. While many Crest regulars are the older, high rollers in town, a lot of young people go there too, especially in the spring and summer because of the deck. It is a hot spot for students returning for the summer to hook up.

The Crest and Rain co-exist, they aren’t competing (well, no more than other restaurants compete for customers). It has nothing to do with who each place is trying to attract. It’s the overall experience that seperates them. Rain has more of an uptempo, downtown, tapas bar feel to it. Very cool. The Crest is more of a take your time, enjoy your meal, take in the view kind of place.

I agree with Poolboy about your demographics being off too. We don’t consciously appeal to the middle-aged “rich” folks, they are atracted by the atmosphere. We do attract a lot of younger people as well, and not just in the Summer time either.

Once again…a thread gone awry.

Better be careful or someone might lock it!

So the casino is going to bring money into Rupert? I’d like to see how that works! I heard that they are going to tear down the Legion and build a bigger, better box with no windows towards the ocean at all. The owners of the Crest have forbidden another ocean view in the city. Same with the empty lot where the Elizabeth apartments used to be. Gonna be a big brick wall there soon so no one can have a free view. It’s amazing how few places there are to sit and enjoy the view, have a drink or three considering we live on an island. Way to go city planners!! Kudos to you!

What? That’s retarded.

Casinos don’t have windows. That’s how they keep you gambling. No distractions. Who knows if they’ll even have a restaurant of any kind. They don’t care about the scenery. You won’t get a peek as long as you have quarters in your plastic cup of poverty.

And I heard that the Crest was working in collusion with CN Rail to buy up the entire water front. The plan is to build a wall all the way around Kaien Island that is high enough that no one will have a view of the harbour. The only place where you will be able to see the water will be at the Crest.

They bought my porch too, and put a big picture of the prairies where my view would’ve been. Stanley installed it himself.

On top of that the Crest has obtained the climate rights for Prince Rupert from God Almighty himself in exchange for a weekend for two in the treat suite. The only place that it will ever be sunny is on the Crest patio
