Matchstick Productions is pretty much THE “big-name” ski movie producers out there next to the ever-horrible Warren Miller movies, and this year, their movie “the Hit List” shows both Terrace and Prince Rupert in the movie.
Terrace is shown in the intro of the movie where it shows a map of the world, zooms in on the locations, and shows a video clip. It shows Terrace second just after Whistler, then zooms in and shows on of Northern Escape Heli Skiing’s (www.neheliskiing.com) choppers taking off.
Afterwards, it shows “Mike Douglas”, aka the godfather of newschool, “in Terrace BC”, as well as other legendary skiers Shane McConkey, Hugo Harrison, and up and comers Mark Abma and Ingrid Backstrom.
Also, there is a segment in the movie and the bonus section showing Prince Rupert. The story behind it was that three skiers; Mark Abma, Shane McConkey, and Darren Rahves (dunno if that’s his name, some racer guy) get on a boat equipped with helicopter in Prince Rupert and then travel up north, using the heli to get to some never-before-skied mountains.
It was cool to see, www.skimovie.com is the site for the company if anyone’s interested, but this is some major tourism exposure for the north coast, especially for Northern Escape Heli Skiing.
