NO not yet!!!
the NEWS IS MAKING A mountain out of a mole hole…
Since January, more than 13,000 have died of complications from seasonal flu
Worldwide annual death from the flu estimated between 250,000 and 500,000
About 9 out of 10 flu deaths are among people older than 65
Well now that gives me something to look forward to, thank Dave for the good news You have a good day as well.
Funny thing is people wearing surgical masks, when they’re really meant for the other direction. ie: you’d wear the mask to prevent from infecting others.
Wash your hands already!
You’re right, Astro, this is really the media failing at basic science.
Surgical masks are meant to stop this kind of thing:

You teachers sure know how to party…lol
We tend to wear surgical masks when we puke!
I thought they were lawyers…
The guy puking is a whalers fan.
They’re meant to work both ways–especially for a situation like this one. Swine Flu patients are given a mask to protect those around them, and hospital staff wear them to prevent being infected themselves.
I’m gonna let Wellington Grey field this one.

Firstly - as if we needed more proof regarding Paris Hilton’s intelligence: tmz.com/videos?autoplay=true … a09c9166dc
Now I don’t remember the exact numbers when I was watching CNN the other day, but one of the reporters (I think it was Rick Sanchez, but might be wrong) was trying to put the swine flu into perspective - saying that more people right now die of the ‘regular’ flu every year. And, one of the stats he shared (and this is where I’m not sure of the exact numbers) was that right now the percentage of the population that have been diagnosed with swine flu is something like 0.00000001% - and to ‘wake him up’ when the number gets to 0.001%.
The World Health Organization has increased its warning level to five, one away from pandemic it seems…

So to be helpful (I guess) Google has decided to track the flu as it marches acros Amuricah, interesting to note that they stop tracking at the border with Canada, so either we are to be relatively flu free, or the horsemen of the apocalypse will soon be galloping across the nation…
Kaleid, I was listening to something similar on the radio–with one guy saying that he wasn’t worried at all and that we’re making a big deal of this. In addition to making the point about the number of people who die from seasonal flu that are never reported, he made the statistical point that he’s far more likely to get hit by a bus than to die from Swine Flu.
To that, the other guest on the show said “but you look both ways before crossing the street.” I guess that’s what various governments and the WHO are doing. I haven’t heard an interview with a single person that says they’re scared of catching Swine Flu… but since we’re all aware of it we can take precautions, stockpile medicine, educate ourselves, etc–all so that we’re not blindsided by this flu like we were by the Spanish Flu in the 1910s.
My god, you’re older than I would have guessed!
Haha… “we” meaning the world. Luckily medical science has improved a massive amount since then… doubt we’ll see more than a few hundered deaths even if the WHO takes us to Pandemic level.
=1918 to 1919 one third of the population of Europe were killed, double the numbers who were killed by world war 1 .
20 to 100 million people were killed worldwide.
when the swine flu hits a few thousands deaths then I will be a little bit worried, until then, its all good.
well there you would be wrong, its a matter of time before a outbreak on that type of scale, and actually we are some what over due on a Pandemic outbreak.
I just mean that it’s extremely unlikely that we’ll see 50 to 100 million deaths world wide as was seen during the Spanish Flu.
Were Canadian, it’s just a flu. 114 cases world wide. On a good day during flu season in Rupert we top that easily.
Can let us know where this Pandemic outbreak clock is???
