Spybot Search and Destroy is free, as are upgrades.
Adaware SE is free too, isn’t it?
Type either one of those into Google and you’ll find a place to download them.
I kind of like Adaware SE, it seems to work okay on my winders box. 
I used AdAware for ages, and I just bought Ewido to tack onto my BartPE disks and noticed AVG (Grisoft) took them over.
Ewido’s a good cleaner but it’s one of those on-all-the-time resource hoggers.

Not true. Ad Aware removes more than just ads.

I’ve been using ad aware and spybot and they both work great, sometimes spybot will catch things that ad aware misses.
