Snow Covered Hills

Hey everyone.

My family is wondering where the best sledding hills in Prince Rupert are.  Any help?

Lax Kxeen school in the east
and the park by the hospital in the west (Totem park I think)
of course im only going by what used to be…

Golf Course…14th hole, 1st hole

Only if you want to slide onto the road and hit by a car.  Also avoid Charles Hays School hill - it’s a lot of fun, but many injuries have happened there.

Totem Park…

Booth (or LaxKxeen) hill is perfectly fine… as long as you know what you’re doing.  Going off of the far right side by the school gives you the longest and safest ride.

CHSS is a killer though… the long drop doesn’t leave much room to slide and slow down before you hit pavement or the log barriers (if they are still there.)

I vote for the golf course… it can be lots of fun specially when there are lots of people around.  But climbing back up #14… killer!

Thanks for the tips guys!

I vote for CHSS

People have been sledding on Booth School hill (Now LaxKxeen School) since before I was a kid. Back when the hill was steeper, and there weren’t any barricades. Has a kid ever actually slid into the road and been hit by a car, or is that just something parents tell their kids to make sure they are more carefull.

If it was such a bad place to sled it would have been dealt with decades ago.

Yes the Wall of the school is very hard, and it comes up really fast…

Golf course is good as well, hills are not too steep and the greens are clear of any big objects like trees!  If you go out the dump road a bit past the hatchery you will come to a fenced area ( like a small fence not a big one) and I think its tee # 8 and its a great place to sled. Or you can walk in from the golf course parking lot, I am not sure how the old dump road is it was pretty bumpy last summer full of pot holes!

I’ve seen some close calls. kids going right out on the road cars and a bus swinging sideways to avoid running him over.  that was before the barricade  so i guess they did do something about it[/quote]

I hate snow covered hills. I always have to go up an them and bash the snow off towers… and it’s been to goddam cold and windy to even think about that for over a month!
