School district discharges teacher facing sexual exploitation char

Less than a week after former teacher Michael Kolesar was sentenced to five years for two counts of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a person with a disability, the Prince Rupert School District announced it had voted to end its working relationship with another teacher facing similar charges.

At a special board of education meeting held September 15, the board chose to discharge Mr. Dana Monteith from his employment with the board effective immediately. The announcement comes following a school board investigation into the former physics teacher, who was arrested on December 22, 2007 for the sexual exploitation of current and former students, with the alleged incidents happening between June 2005 and July 2007. Meanwhile, RCMP investigations have reduced the charges from three counts to two counts.
