What the fucking fuck shit fuck?.. I dont see how this is legal.

theglobeandmail.com/life/hea … le1447337/

From reading the comments this may not be entirely true but then again it might…

yeah, I was just reading the comments too. There’s no possible way that this could happen in the way the reporter portrayed it, could you imagine the lawsuits?

One would assume there would be some documentation on whether or not medical students performed an exam and whether or not it was consented to… and most importantly why it was done…

I will wait and see if a retraction is posted before completely going off the deep end.

I hate it when doctors perform gynecological exams on me while I’m unconscious.

You can laugh and mock if you wish. I may not have a vagina but my girlfriend does. If this turns out to be completely factual who knows what other exams are done on men/women while they are unconscious.

i for one have a penis and i would not want a rectal exam while unconcious or anything else around my special area.

there is messed up news stories about doctors and whatever else all over the world . it is hard to stop anything happening that you have no control over . but if you doctor prescribes you rohypnol i would change doctors.

Oh sorry for hurting your feelings, I was mocking and laughing because it’s almost certainly BS. And if it’s not complete BS, it’s not widespread. We’d be hearing reports every day from women and men training to be doctors who are just as outraged as you are with the practice.

It would be nice to know the number of patients who, because of the examination, were benefited .(by this i mean early detection of somethingitis). 'just a thought.

My feelings are not hurt I don’t care what you think. You will notice that my link is not to some forum on the internet making these claims but to a national newspaper giving it at least some credibility.

Now that doesn’t mean its entirely true or true at all but it is something people should be aware of and ask questions about.

Asshat.

They seem to think it’s real, and even have some links to medical journals outlining the practice.

What would you like? Sign a consent form or have your procedure done elsewhere?
Honest to God “I felt violated because Doctors looked at me while I was unconcious as part of their training”?
They’re studying an organ, not YOU.
Who the hell is that goddam uptight? Do something about your problem!

It’s one thing to have a pelvic exam in the privacy of the doctors office, and totally wrong, and “invasive”, to have a pelvic exam under anethestic and not knowing what the hell is going on .
jesus said it … what the fucking shit fucked up shit…shit fuck…

Fucking right they should have you sign a consent form to have medical students poking and prodding at you while unconscious. They’re apparently doing this without notification.

edit:

How would you feel if you woke up from anesthesia with a sore ass and no idea what went on other than the awkward looks from several medical students and a wink from another especially effeminate male student.

I certianly wouldn’t want my twat poked without my consent. If it’s by a doctor, and is part of the procedure, fine. But other than that, it’s wrong and should be considered rape…

its educational rape though so its ok

Would it matter if they studied the blemishes  on your face? To them it’s no different. To attach a sexual connotation implies that you are incapable of distinguishing your genitalia from your self. Guts are guts.
Some people would never let a doctor of the opposite sex examine them. That’s not a flaw of science, medicine or doctors. It’s a flaw in the individual.
Not that I’m saying you shouldn’t be informed beforehand. One would assume at a teaching hospital you’d know there may be medical students watching or learning.
I’d be careful. Revealing actual indignation or concern about winking effeminate interns could earn you a recommendation of a schedule of therapy from an actual doctor.

I’m of the same opinion. If I’m out cold and they want to practice prostate exams, honestly I’d rather have 6 students take turns while I can’t feel it than when I’m awake.

The real issue here seems to be consent, and I agree that it seems odd they wouldn’t ask beforehand. It seems purposely deceitful–because clearly before they put you under they know they’ve got students waiting in the hall.

Still, though–my fantastic joke was fantastic.

Edit: Herbie makes a great point, it’s only sexual to us. It’s nothing special to them–and if it is special to them, then they should be considering a different career.

That’s why I’m saying there should be consent. Regardless of wether or not they find it sexual, it’s still completely un ethical. I’m not saying that it’s not okay for them to preform the tests, I’m saying it’s wrong for them to preform them without asking the person first. If it’s a heart surgery, they’d have consent forms if a student was learning on a patient. Or any other procedure, hopefully anyways. So why should a test like that be any different?

Your stance would be entirely valid if you’d gone in for tonsils and they did pelvic exams. But how else should it be? If they did your tonsils and the med students looked in your mouth while you were out cold, it would be exactly the same.
The outrage should be at some bureaucrat who forgot to hide a consent subclause in 4pt text in your admission form.
