I would never do this, but for arguments sake, lets say I need wrd 2000 or so for “school” but do not have the means to obtain it from the “establishment”. Where would the best place to bet it and how do I get around the security of the latest MS operating system?

Why not use a free and legal office suite that is MS compatible, that is, it will open and save documents in the .doc format.  Openoffice 3.0 has no copywrite issues.  Download it for free here:


I would recommend Open Office. Excellent product.

You could also try Google Documents. Its simple and its free and you don’t have to install anything.
But Open Office is handy also.

OpenOffice is totally the bomb - and is fully compatible with MS crap.
