Numbers show significant growth for Port Authority

The Prince Rupert Port Authority has seen a significant increase in the tonnage being handled in the first half of 2008 compared to 2007, thanks in large part to the success of the Fairview Container Terminal.

Thus far the terminal has handled 43,555 TEUs, equating to 435,550 tonnes, with an average of 7,093 TEUs per month. Outbound containers accounted for 50 per cent of the throughput, with 39 per cent set for export to Asia. The number of containers handled each week has also been growing, from 1,232 TEUs in early April to 2, 631 TEUs
