News Media Bias

So here in Alberta, everyone seems to be against the Carbon Tax. And by everyone, I mean anyone in a rural area. Which is ironic, because rural Alberta gets more back from the Carbon Tax than any other place in Canada.

I get back about $2600/year from the Carbon tax. Which is way more than I pay in Carbon tax.

Meanwhile, I find it funny to listen to people in BC blame the BC Carbon tax on Trudeau, or call it socialist, or whatever.

BC’s carbon tax was brought in by the most right-wing provincial government Canada has ever seen. Because a carbon tax is the “market solution” that conservatives and free-market types love. Heck even American conservatives were suggesting it a generation ago.

But somehow the “conservative” parties in North America used to be parties of the “Free Market.” Now they’re run by Christian Fundamentalists, Q-Anon conspiracy nuts, and anti-science crusaders. With a sprinkling of “Anti-Woke” and Facists thrown in. Basically weirdos.

You really do start to understand how weird they are when you try to discuss politics with them. They’re so deeply embedded in their truth silo that you can’t reason with them. My Gawd, I do hope that Kamala beats the snot out of the orange Jesus in November.

the problem here in BC is yes the BC Liberals did bring it in and NDP hated it, but 100% of the funds went back to about 75% of the ppl in rebate cheques, but since the NDP got into power only about, 50% of the carbon tax goes back to the ppl, the rest the NDP pockets for general revenue, so they keep raising it to make the revenues look good, I have no problem with a carbon tax but not on heating fuel and give 100% back to the ppl

Where do you think the rebates for EV buyers comes from? Hell they could’ve just added the tax and not even given it a name and half the complaining would go away.
I do think half the opposition would go away if they dropped it on home heating and farming. Hell I’d suggest stop all the rebate nonsense and increase the EV credits, but with the giveaways and tariffs the N American car companies will just slurp it up and still not deliver the EVs people want to buy.
They;ll make a 12 ton 6x6 E-Hummer 3 row supercab with duallies for $300,000 to ‘prove’ no one wants EVs first.
But it’s a cult thing. Everyone wants to be a conservative. Bring back MSP premiums, bridge tolls, cut transit even more and end child care subsidies. Watch them scream.
Came back from paying 28c a litre less in Abbotsford for gas refined in the USA than for Alberta gas refined in Prince George here. To hear the same people gripe about the 3c hike last April.
And every penny of every tax on gas is the only part that benefits the Canadian public, not corporate profits.

Media bias of the week: how they’re portraying workers protesting the back to the office order. Like they’re striking, not protesting. Like they have no right to even protest.
Like the govt being busy solving port, rail and airline problems for them prevented them negotiating work from home into their own employees contract for years and years.
Unlike the major phone carriers they don’t get to call them back to the office so they can relocate the office to another town that 90% of the workers can’t move to, and avoid calling it a layoff.

Was watching Global News about the NDP pay raises for cabinet. During the so-called news item they showed the Oprah car giveaway twice. While the criticism may be apt, it shouldn’t have been in the news item.
