Minister says Prince Rupert key to forestry growth

According to Forest minister Pat Bell, Prince Rupert plays a crucial role in the Provinces plans as demand for BC wood continues to grow in the Asian markets.

so prince rupert must become a storage lot for unprocessed wood that will be shipped to asia to be processed then sold back to us at top dollar. This is great progress from having the processing jobs here in our province.

Well lets hope that this new potential operation for the region lands in Prince Rupert and not Terrace or Kitimat.

To be fair, 93% of the lumber leaving to Asia is already processed. Is your issue solely with the 7% of raw log exports?

I have an issue with all raw log exports including the much more than 7% to the states. If we are going to rape and pillage our land we should at least reap some benefit from it… not just a select few rich guys.

Define “processed”?

I can’t believe they didn’t mention Quickload. They already stuff lumber into containers for/and export to Asia.

That’s what ‘processing’ means. Squaring the raw logs off so they can fit more in a container.
You didn’t think a BC Liberal was gonna tell you the whole truth did you? They can do the absolute minimum to the logs, by the least amount of lowest paid workers to circumvent the raw log export quotas.
But the actual lumber exports are growing too.
A friend had to go to Japan to accept his Ten Black Ribbons of Shame and save a contract when some boards delivered were 1/2mm out… 1/2 a mm!!!
