I use the Western Digital and it plays anything I throw at it however it has no network or accommodations for a hard drive.

I am thinking of selling it and upgrading to the new one out that has network capability.

i would say its similar to the one you have the one im referring to has bitorrent downloading built in which i found a great feature. says a it has a 2.5" hdd but not the capacity

Check out this vid.

Yes I like the part about the bittorent part however your stuck with there style of program that you may not like.

waiing for it to load but really i just want to find the best buy for this sort of thing i already have my ps3 and 360 that i access my 2 pcs to play my movies just thought this would be good for another room. rarely do i use a disc now.just trying to find the best bang for the buck lol

Patriot, Asus and Western Digital have set the price of these things at the $100 - $130 range and they work quite well. There is more high end units like the Popcorn Hour but the best bang for the buck would be any of the three I mentioned.
I run a Linux server in the house that I store all my files and run torrentflux-b4rt on so the hard drive option and the torrent app in one of these things isn’t all that important.

I think boxee is coming out with a box soon too, and that should be awesome.

I use Boxee (and its cousin xbmc) on an AppleTV.

Boxee looks interesting when it comes out on a media player box. Not sure about friends knowing what Ia am watching

Mig are you constantly converting the format of your files to play them on your Apple TV?

Nope, I just stream whatever format they’re in.  Both Boxee and XBMC will play any format.

ive thought about apple tv too . then theres the slingbox which the psp advertises to work with it

About the Boxee box, here’s the link:  http://boxee.tv/box

Neat design, looks like it’s melted into the table.  And it’s made by D-Link.
