Kids these days, taking space photos

Teens capture images of space with £56 camera and balloon

Awesome, The Big Picture has a bunch of photos of the launch: … above.html

No safety glasses in photo #3!  And they have Linux and Mac OS X running with Bootcamp on their Macbooks.

Mig - Your students should do a project like this. Bet I can get a camera for you.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  Our problem would be recovery – it would have to float

I wonder how high we could get a tethered balloon with a camera?

Yeah I was thinking that would make a great school project, but the recovery part would be near impossible where we live. Tethering would be interesting. What about some sort of wireless transmitter? Is that feasible?

They had a wireless transmitter in theirs.  That’s how they found it.  It was more for locating the camera than transmitting data, though.

I’m going to float this by a friend of mine and some students and see what we can come up with.

float it by a friend. rotfl.
Make it waterproof and floatable then wait for the wind to blow west and have a friend with a boat track it.

It would make good recovery practice for Coast Guard or RCMP Marine.
