James gives NDP no chance

The James gang rides again! Great news for B.C. Liberal supporters. Barring a complete, scandal-filled meltdown by the Liberals, they are all but guaranteed a four-peat if Carole James stays on as NDP leader through to the next election, which she said she plans to do.
As the old saying goes: you can’t fire the whole team, so the coach has to go. James has had two shots and failed, having yet to even threaten to knock Gordo from his perch. They need someone else, someone who can attract more than a couple dozen people to rallies.

Yeah sometimes I think she is working to keep Gordo in power!
She needs to hit the road
I was waiting for this subject to occur.  She has had 2 kicks at the cat, now it’s time for her to move on.

Me-Ow!

The fact she’s the leader now doesn’t mean she’ll be the leader that runs as Premier in 2012. It’s also not a sealed deal that Gordon Campbell will still be the BCL leader. Lots can change in four years.

2013*

Having said she wants to be leader for the next provincial election pretty much dooms the NDP in my opinion. They may very well toss her out before then, but it will split the party. Seems like recent history shows that if the party is split it is very difficult to get their act together. The battle between Ignatief and Bob Rae squabling for power made room for Dion to gain power for the federal liblerals. The fight for the Democrats with Obama and Clinton was the only reason the Republicans even had a chance. After 8 years of George Bush the republicans should have been thrashed like the NDP was 8 years ago. One thing I would bet on though,Prince Rupert will be voting NDP no matter who the NDP leader is.

You’re looking at the wrong thing: you aren’t voting for a leader, but a party.
Had the NDP run a positive campaign, with a TEAM approach like Mikey did they would have done better.
We’ve had enough of ‘leaders’ like Gordo and Harper. We might as well go back to Kings and Queens if we insist on believing one person matters. Like the Yanks fighting a revolution and ending up with 2 term tyrants.

I said IF she remains leader until the next election, which she has stated she wants to do. Chookie raises some excellent points about it dividing the party the longer she does stay on because surely there must be more than a few members that can see the party has stagnated and needs new leadership.
As for Gordo, I think the Liberals would be wise to get him out before the next election as well, as it would give the party a fresh look, which they might need after such a long run and especially if the NDP gets a new leader.

I would not be the slightest bit surprised if Gordo makes that decision for the BC Liberals and that there is an orderly transition to a new leader. It is hard to imagine the Liberals managing succession issues as poorly as the NDP has done since Harcourt’s time.

I miss Mike, one of the most honourable men I’ve ever met.

I heard Eric Mercer was running for the Liberals… Just sayin’.

lol…Chookie means _________

So if Mike Tyson was leader of the democrats instead of Barrack Obama it would make no differenceto you? You must be gonna vote for 1 party your entire life, no matter who is in charge. I vote for who I think will do the best job for them 4 years. I voted Liberal this past election because I did not think Carol James is someone I wanted to be the Premiere of BC. I voted for Nathan Cullen because I believe he does a good job. Anyone who thinks that the leader and candidate have little importance seems very short sighted.

PS, Sorry but I do not know how to use the quotation feature yet,lol

… what Chookie said, which should be readily comprehensible to anyone who has read the post.

That’s a rather naive point of view. No doubt, the party as a whole or “team” has to be taken into consideration but the leader represents the party and will, if elected, represent the province/country.
Everyone looks for strong leadership, whether it’s in politics or on a sports team. The only time weak leaders prevail is when the alternative at the time is so unpalatable that it’s by default.

What I pointed out was that under Parliamentary Democracy, YOU don’t get to vote for the leader (unless you’re in their riding) and the “Leader” of the Party does not have the same clout as in the USA.
Harper has tried to run a one man show since he was installed, and he’s the ONLY reason the Conservatives have got as far as they have. Otherwise there’s always enough dinosaurs in that Party to wreck everything with a moronic statment or deed at the wrong time.
Gordo’s done much the same.

I vote for Nathan Cullen as the best candidate, not for Jack Layton. Did you vote for that candidate with the ego so affected by her political successes she’d snap nude pics in Parliament, just because you liked Harper better than Dion? They fooled you good then, cuz that’s niave.

she will continue to be the leader until the knives, ummm she losses support from her caucus or membership, and that will also depend on the polls they take of why they lost, and if she does step down the party will then have to finally decide if they want to get into the 21st century and elect a leader that understands business is not a dirty word and can control the party apparatus and special interest groups that seem to bring most parties down.

Don’t worry the NDP will never think selling our rivers to private companies and forcing the taxpayers to subsidize their exported power sales as anything but “dirty business”. OR fast-tracking a pipeline that starts out on day one saying it will need to bring in 5,000 foregin workers to build it. OR contract a SkyTrain job to a company that uses 90% foreigners and pays them so poorly they tie up OUR Courts with complaints.
But as long as 46% of people think that’s “good” business, you’ll have no worries.

Now if they’d drop their assinine x% of candidates must be female, x% ethnic bullshit and recruit some star candidates that would make great Finance, Forestry, etc Ministers, you would have to worry.

Well you got a BINGO on that one, wait now, bingo, didnt the NDP have some kinda controversy with Mike Harcourt about that? If I was a betting man I would say so,wait now, gambling, was Glen Clark involved in some kind of Casino scandal? All this talk is just gay, wait now,did Sven Robinson not get caught stealing a ring for his boyfriend? What a fairie thing to do,wait now, ferries? Could swear there was a fastcat fiasco involving the NDP somewheres.

Mike Harcourt took responsibility for “Bingogate” by resigning, something our current Premier would never do.
