We’re in the process of setting up the Stuart Lake Men’s Shed here in Fort St. James. Any interest there to forming one? It’s a growing movement these days.
Nothing comes up if I do a search.
Great idea if you’re retired to socialize and share any stories and skills among others and give back to the community.
There was apparently some meetings last May/June about getting one started with some presentations from the folks in Fraser Lake. I haven’t seen anything online since. There is one on the associations website though: https://bcmensshed.ca/sheds/prince-rupert-mens-shed/

We’re holding our Official Inaugural meeting here on Tuesday to formally vote in a Board, Constitution, Code of Conduct and ByLaws. These are necessary to register as a non-profit society. Will be done by the end of the month.
All previous meetings were disorganized free for alls with volunteer chairmen, treasurers, etc. Like dreaming about renting a warehouse shed with $20 from a handful of members and great projects we could do…
We;ve grabbed the name Stuart Lake Men’s Shed and once registration is complete we can get a mailbox, a bank account, etc. and really start fundraising and applying for grants.
I do the publicity, posters, website, etc. but only put meeting and event notices on Farcebook. Had to take over the geeky stuff as 90% of members can’t handle govt online sites, been in a Society or heard of Roberts Rules.
3 guys with dedication, you can start a Men’s Shed
BTW if you’re ever in Vanderhoof they have a great one. Huge chunk of a building full of tools and refurbed things for sale.
We’re going for just a small place first, somewhere with a table and a coffee pot when men can meet, talk, have a game of crib or hearts show a presence in the town. Projects can be done on site, bring own tools for now.

Registered our Society and I spoke with Men’s Shed BC contact to get us listed on theirs and the Men’s Shed Canada site today.
He told me they’d made a presentation in Rupert, but only one enthusiast and couldn’t get the ball rolling.
Maybe someone would like to give it another try? Little more publicity? The BC Association will grant $1000 to cover startup costs.
I just posted the first verse of Pink Floyd’s TIME as a big reason to join ours on FB and quickly got a lot of Likes.
We’ve got 25 paid members already in this tiny town.
We’re setting up our storefront now. Got s place in the mall - but can’t really do a workshop in there. It will be done offsite for now. A meeting place, social centre, office and a ‘store’ where you can get refurbed goods for donations.
We’re doing the setup work now.
Any progress in Rupert - Terrace - Kitimat?
Just was on the BC men’s shed site and learned the movement has spread west to Fraser Lake do far. Anyone further west wishing to start one, contact [email protected] to find out how.
Meanwhile here, I’m drumming it into member’s heads that we are a Society and not a business. We do not sell or charge, we solicit for donations and what that means for permits, licenses and tax purposes. Also explaining how it doesn’t matter if we only get $100 out of our last Big Yard Sale of the Year, we’re showing our flag so people notice us. That’s what’s important.
OMG male only groups are like herding cats! Argue and fight every suggestion that they didn’t make.
Asked the VP why he quit in a snit and he told me the fighting among the 6 main assholes was too much and he realized he’d become the biggest one!
