Hi everyone, I have posted some really bad photos, I apologize, but they are actually 35mm re-shot with my digital, so bear with me. Anyway, they are of the lookout up Mt. Hays and I was wondering ,as I have not been up there in 4-5 years , if you were still able to access it. I know it is a good hike going in but well worth it and if so, is the stove still there ? Great place, you can see for miles. I am sure that I could see Russia from up there eh Sara
Picture of the stove…Thanks guys and is the road really bad past the dynamite shack? Would like to get up there again…
That looks like my old television but looks like a great view.
Sure does…also looks like an old stove with a built in TV.
It’s totally accessible but you have to walk a fair bit unless you have a sturdy pick up or quick dirt bike. But the walk is worth it as the view is freaking phenomenal.
Come on, Baker, just six more posts and you’ll have run the board!
Oops. Sorry. Seven posts, now that I have bumped your name off this one. Drat!
The hike-in has been improved dramatically over the past year. A find group of people have been bringing in truckloads of gravel to smooth out the trail. Hiking boots are no longer a necessity, sneakers will do you fine.
Hey thanks, that is good to know ! Now all I need is a Great Dane to pull me up there…I guess a dog wouldn’t hurt either…
from my understanding, In a short time, you will not be able to go up the mountain, or drive past the gate out at Ridley. So better go up now before you cant anymore…
why couldnt you go up the mountain ? whats the point of the quickclimb fundraiser they had last year and are gonna have yearly from what i understand . and ridley is port authority property so be happy you can get past there now anyway.
I think they are still hoping to use Wantage Rd. to divert large truck traffic from the downtown core to the ferries etc. but as they have only touched on that plan briefly in the last year, I would not put your hiking boots away. You know Rupert, talk, talk and more talk … Anyone know what is happening with the Rushbrook Trail and will it be refurbished by June 2008…?
It is a mess…
the port has no plans to use wantage road thats the citys idea.the ports idea is they will be out to ridley island soon enough so traffic will go through there anyway.rushbrok no plan for that the rotary club scrapped the idea too expensive
Good to know decker, thanks, but I thought that the rotary had already been allocated funding for that project, in fact, for the second time…Where has all the money gone? It is too bad that it won’t be cleaned up, it is such a beautiful walk through there and great berries too…I think we should have some kind of shuttle service to take the cruiseship passengers up Mt.Hays, maybe have a picnic waiting for them or BBQ…Anyone out there have an ATV willing to donate to the cause or for a percentage of the monies raised…It was MY idea first guys… I think it has possibilities…
The issue of the Rushbrooke Trail was dropped when it was realized that it would cost much more than $350,000 to shore up the cliff faces.
Here’s a couple shots from when I was up there April 27th in the evening.
I’ve been spending quite a bit of time up there lately. Lot of shots on my website. I picked up a GPS that loads the location the photos were taken right into the photo data then when I load it on line it maps the exact location the shot was taken. Its been fun go-tagging some of my favorite spots this past couple weeks.
can someone put signs up to make it easier for a newbie like me who wants to start hiking these various trails. i want to go with my son who is 8 i’d hate to get lost with him lol
