Highway 16 closed to Terrace

Monday’s wild weather has resulted in the closure of Highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert, at 915 Drive BC listed the highway as closed in both directions from Prince Rupert to Rainbow Pass due to a high avalanche risk.

The closure is in effect until at least 11 am on Tuesday, with an update expected to be provided at 10 am…

Friiiiiiick.  I’m supposed to go to Terrace tomorrow morning!!

Looks like you might have to change your plans, if you look at the weather forecast we’re in store for some 50 plus mm tomorrow plus continuing high winds, ideal kind of weather for avalanche risk.  sorry…

That’s ok… if the highway stays closed then I don’t have to do inventory!

LOL, a silver lining in every avalanche warning…

It’s now closed until possibly 2pm.  Next update is at noon.

Latest update has the highway closed until 4pm for debris removal, another update expected at 4pm.

Update:  road was reopened this afternoon, however with the following warning posted:

High Avalanche Hazard 34 km east of Agate Creek Bridge to 55 km west of Terrace (4.6 km). Updated Tue Jan 27 at 5:57 pm.
