Hey, citywest... screw you
No no no Jesus, didn’t you realise??? It’s your phone/computer/router’s fault, Citywest has AMAZING service and they couldn’t POSSIBLY be at fault for something like that. It’s obviously on your end…

rolls eyes
They’ve gotta have this as a motto hanging up somewhere in their office or something.
You know, I get really upset sometimes about the service I receive (internet/landline) but in the end, I’ve decided to let it go.
You know why? CityWest is about the only provider in Canada that does not have GB bandwidth caps. Yeah, it’s slow once and a while. But really, 100GB’s in one month? You know how much that would cost you with another provider? You’re left nut.
You actually do have download caps, after 75 GB you have to pay $2 per extra GB.

ADSL I think not, I have downloaded more then 75 GB in a month and with Netflix streaming 1/2 the day long, it would be easy to gobble that bandwidth, but Cable Modem you are right…

So what you are saying is there is a cap but not if you have a service from them that they no longer offer.

In other words yes they do have a cap and yes it is lower than other providers and for the price paid its also much slower.

Citywest all around sucks. In fact now I’m irritated again so I’m going to call $my pro vider again.

Not sure if we are on the same page, I have had full ADSL for years, and never ever been charged extra for bandwidth, but a few years ago I inquired about the cable Internet as people were talking about faster speeds better ping, the only catch was that cable was capped at 75 GB download, then you had to pay per GB after that. No thanks!

Like so many people here we switched our cellar from city west to Rodgers and 7/11 pay as you go. But I’m happy with ADSL serves I have been getting from citywest.

So citywest does not offer cable service anymore?

I think they still offer both. I could be wrong though. It’s happened before.

They offer traditional analogue cable services, I don’t know about the “High-Speed… Premium” DSL connection though. I didn’t have the option between the two when I told 'em I would be needing the fastest connection they have available.

And literally, my online meetings can sometimes use quite a bit of bandwidth.
Oh and my downloads, after a careful amount of optimization, are around 700 KB/s now. I just don’t like the download cap.

I hate shitty west just as much as you do jesus… Cell service is horrible…resending texts over and over agian till one gets thru. sending texts and not arriving to the reciever till 3 4 hrs later or even the next day…not working in Mexico or Hawaii and even New Mexico… Brutal!!!

Internet is a fucking Joke…slow and stinky as the shit that comes out of my ass… my old Commodore PET 2001 can run faster than shitty west’s service and while even dwnloading porn

We are stuck in buttfuck nowhere with shitty service so we dont get what we pay for and we pay alot…i bet Afghanistan has better service thatn us and their is a war goin on over there.

FUCK YOU TOO SHITTY WEST as soon as this town gets a better service provider iam out!!..yes i know that could be never…damn you Rupert…damn you all to hell!

PS: i use my shittywest bills for ass wipe…i may as well get my money’s worth right ?

I thought Citywest cell equipment was run/maintained by Northwest Tell, which is basically a division of Bell.

Here’s the explanation for Citywest not working during the recent storm and power outage:
… both radio stations were off the air and CityWest cell service was down on Sunday.

CItywest Manager Rob Brown told The Northern View the problem occurred at the downtown site.

When staff went in Sunday morning to determine why cell service was cut off, they discovered that five months ago when a new system was installed it was wired into the wrong panel.

“The old system was turned down, although it was connected,” Brown said.

Richard Wright from The Electrician came in at noon and did a temporary power fix and service was restored.

“It’s unfortunate, but it was fixed, and hopefully won’t happen again,” Brown added.
That seems to suggest that Citywest is running the cell service, unless it was Bell that miswired the service.

So next time Citywest tries to blame Northwestel and Bell for its frequent problems, ask them who is really running the service.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too. Either Northwestel is responsible for Citywest’s constant poor service, or Citywest itself is responsible. Pick one, and stick to the message, Mr. Brown.

im happy with my rogers cell. it works just fine. i dont miss citywest.

Lots of bitching, is service in Rupert that bad ?

I dont know would you call data services uptime of 60% bad?
I would call that… “im not paying my bill”

I don’t pay them any money. I pay my provider who doesnt care. We are trying to work out an arrangement where I get a new phone not on citywests network but so far it involves me signing a contract which I wont do.

guess it’s pay as you go for you then

Hey, Citywest whats with the 4-15% packet loss within your own network? Let me guess you ‘de-prioritize ICMP traffic?’ but only on the one router right? Since you’re imposing a bandwidth cap on me I’m sure we have an SLA of sorts right? am I entitled to credits for downtime?

oh right you arent a serious provider, you’re just here to provide some high paying jobs for those with friends/family in the right places right?

Either be a real company or sell your assets to someone who will run things like they should be.

Instead of bitching about your service on the forum, why not grow some god dam balls go down to citywest, and talk to Keith, unless you are to much of a pussy to go in and say something, and would rather hide behind a keyboard.

Like c’mon, atleast tempt to talk to Keith.

Every time i had a problem, i called him or went in and talk to him, got resolved right away.

Yes jason a lack of balls is clearly my problem and I’m not just venting my frustration. Citywest has backbone issues they always have no amount of complaining/talking to anyone will change that. The problem seems to only occur at peak times and is at one of the border routers between citywest and navigata. The packet loss doesnt bother me so much as the shit slow speeds I get but thats nothing new on citywest at peak hours.

The reason people continue to deal with City Tel must be civic duty, a desire to cling to the old ways, to a world the way it used to be. Keith happens to be very good at his job, and if he had unlimited access to what he needed, you’d all be worshipping him (between the whine and please about other issues).

City Tel is antiquated, and there simply isn’t a substantial enough customer base to make the necessary upgrades to provide service on par with competitors. Let’s be extremely optimistic and say City Tel has a customer base of 100,000. Telus has one whose numbers are in millions. Who has the cash flow to do whatever they want?

Civic patriotism is fine if you’re a Shaker or Amish, but sucks if you feel your monthly fees should provide you with state-of-the-art service. The real issue at stake is the jobs that City Tel provides versus its cost to customers and taxpayers. I’d hate to see any job lost, but City Tel remains yet another obstacle to Prince Rupert truly being globally competitive.

If City Tel is sold, lets hope that whoever is charged with drafting and negotiating the contract is someone on Prince Rupert’s side, and not his/her buddies. The rights to communications for that area have got to be worth many millions of dollars, hopefully some of the money is used to fairly compensate any employees that may lose employment. Given the paticulars of Rupert’s situation, a very generous severance package should be given.

Its time to grow up Prince Rupert, so tuck your City Tel blankies in the closet, and let’s show everyone that you can be big boys and girls.
