WILL SOMEONE PLACATE MY CURIOUSITY REGARDING THIS GREY BOX.

Looks to me like it’s the opposite of a blind spot.

It’s a square of 2006 high-resolution imagery.  Sort of the same resolution as half of Terrace.

There’s a link to the spot attached to this message.  Notice the waves?

There are a lot of blank spots on Google Earth, though.  These are either deliberately blanked out (cf. Vice President’s house), or just a lack of imagery availability.  Check out the other link, it’s a blind spot in Greenland.

More squares and map quirks attached.

If you think of how Google Earth works, it would be normal to have these quirks.  Some areas have higher resolution photos, or photos taken at different times of the year (or day).  Some areas just don’t have any imagery available.

Dead pixel policies?
Wouldn’t it be nice to see reality like this on CSI or 24?

Jack Bauer sends a pic from his cellphone to the “lab” and the $billion ‘extrapolating software’ we always see on teevee does its job. We’ve got him! Put out an APB for a caucasian male with a big black hole where his face should be!

or better:
The NSA bought that spy satellite from DELL. As soon as we get past this dipshit from Bangalore they’re going to send a Dell tech to fix it for free. Tomorrow.

It’s the man trying to keep them down.
