FYI : Clinc Change for Doctors presently at Primary Care

Effective May 1st: The Coetzee husband and wife team of doctors will be moving to the 2nd Ave. Clinc. from the former Greene Clinc now called Primary Health Care …
Doctor Vander Wart is leaving Prince Rupert. Many of his clients will be picked up by the new doctor team at the clinc.

WOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!

Do I detect a dislike for Doctor Vander Wart Princess?

I like the guy on a personal level. As a doctor, I don’t find him to be very thorough, and I’m excited to have access to a female doctor.

Well I am glad it worked out for you… I was surprised to hear they were moving into 2nd Ave. She is very nice, never met her husband…

slight thread heist…
Just commenting on the woohoo in respect to having a female doctor…while Ive not heard anything bad about Dr. Coetzee I always find it interesting that many women will immediately flock to any female doctor regardless of ability just because she has a uterus.
Personally I would choose skill and compassion over enherent body parts.

2nd Ave clinic refuses to comment on this. Dr. Van der Wart is my doctor and I would like to get on the waiting list for the female Dr. Cotzee. Not because she has a uterus but because I have attended many patient sessions with her in a work capacity and I like what she has shown so far. I have never met her husband. This is going to leave the Primary Health Care center in a bind…good old Northern Health, they seem to have no luck in attracting qualified doctors or nurses. I have also heard that Dr. Wigmore is leaving town. That puts us down two doctors again which isn’t good for the people in town who already have no physcian. I think the 2nd Ave clinic would work well if it just went to a walk in clinic anyone could access.

I would HATE to have a walk in clinic there. I prefer the doctor I have, and i don’t want some other stranger checking out my hoo ha when that time of year comes around.
It would be nice to have some form of walk in clinic, but I do not want to give up my doctor for it.

Doctor Wigmore is leaving town but someone new is coming to replace him is what he is telling some of his patients.
Also Northern Health attracted the Cotzees and they are simply moving down town… We are still up doctors over what he had a couple years ago… Long term The site of the Primary Health Care Centre may be closed for something new being considered on that property it is still just a possibilty at this point in time…

A walk in clinic does not mean you would loose your regular doctor. It means that people who do not have a regular physician would be able to access a doctor without having to go to emergency every time they have a cold, earache etc.

I live in Terrace and for the first 6 months or so my kids and I did not have a doctor. The way it works here, in my experience, is that one of the doctors is designated to be the walk in doctor of the day. You call up the clinic(which by the way is one large office building that houses all the doctors and specialists) and ask to see the doctor on call. If you go to emergency for anything other than an emergency during regular hours they will assess you, then call the doctor on call to see if they have a time to see you and then they send you there. I think it works quite well. I managed to get a family doctor by asking the on call doctor if she would take my children and I on as regular patients.

Sorry about not quoting correctly, I don’t post here on a regular basis and Mig isn’t here to help me out.

I don’t blame the ladies, having a man asking you to undress must be terribly uncomfortable. That’s human behavior though.

well we dont take our clothes off in front of them for one…lol
its all very private and sheeted and if a male does a pelvic exam a nurse is usually present tho if your nervous I’m guessing a crowd would make you more so?
Anyway, having pelvic exams, mammograms etc just are not the most comfortable thing to have to go through regularly but I would want someone who knew what they were doing and what they were looking for in ALL aspects of my medical life. To base who cares for you through your life and through health crisis such as injuries or cancer or mental health based on the fact that they will see my vagina once a year seems ridiculous to me.
As for the male doctor seeing all of you…it isnt anything he hasnt seen 10000 times before and most likely isnt exactly the best part of his day either.
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying female doctors are no good…just think its silly to pick one based on body parts.

So for you men out there who get their prostate checked…male or female?..hmmmm?

Female I am more concerned about not having both hands on my shoulders during my prostate exam than the exam itself

Im sorry but ROFLMAO !

My point is, I would rather have someone I am familiar with, who is familiar with me, checking me out anywhere. Rather than having a new doctor to see every time I went.

It really dont matter to me as long as they dont find my head up there and the wife is right !

Dr. Van Der Wart isn’t leaving permanently. He’s going globe trotting for awhile. He said he’ll be coming back part time.

So what happens to his patients then? I called the clinic as he is my Dr. but they won’t give any info. Do we get a new Dr? I hope so, he may be a nice guy but I sure find him not very interested as my doctor. In regards to pelvic exams…does any doctor in town do this? I thought it was an automatic referral to Dr. Pinearr for any “female” issues. What is frustrating is when you can’t accomplish a good doctor/patient relationship but because of shortages of doctors in town you can’t transfer to a different doctor. I am patiently waiting for the new doctors to come to 2nd Ave and make a switch.

This issue of doctor shortages is a universal problem in Canada not unique to us… When I was planning to move to the island late last summer, I inquired at 3 clincs about becoming a patient, and was put on a waiting list at each of the clincs, and told to use walk in clincs while I waited… I actually got a call from a clinc on the island telling me I was accepted as a patient, so someone else will be happy to acquire the doctor. Thankfully i am staying on in Rupert for the long haul. So anyone moving I suggest inquiring from the North prior to a move … Dr Vanderwart according to another post is not leaving permanetly he will be back. Mrs. Coitzee told me that in May between her and her husband they will take on much of his patients. learning that he will be back part time means we are only down .5 of a doctor. If his absence is short term for travel, temporaily the Coitzees and other doctors have it covered … I had been told Vanderwart was leaving town, but it’s great he will be back…
