Used to use Opera in the days before FF. Then at Opera6 it started having all these page rendering problems. Opera9 had tons of widgets, which I never use.
There must be a “law” that states the longer any software app is around the more bloated it becomes.

When I hit alt+s in FF 2.0.0.6 in Slackware Linux it opens History. Maybe that helps you.
If you mean using Alt-S to submit, have you tried shift-alt-S ?
Try this to change the behaviour (in 2.0.0.6, anyway)
click the address bar and type in about: config
find ui.key.chromeAccess and change it to 5
find ui.key.contentAccess and change it to 4
