Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline gets green light from JRP

Yes, Happy New Year.

I think that this kind of debate easily gets dragged into familiar back and forth arguing, and nobody really changes their mind. And it can easily turn nasty.

I’ll try another tack, and leave it at that.
Most things in life are a series of risk vs. reward. From buying insurance, to driving your car, to flying in a helicopter, to crossing the street. In my opinion the risk with this pipeline has been overblown and the measures that will be taken to mitigate an accident have convinced me it is safe.
Some people oppose everything no matter what, some people are NIMBY’s, and some think the risk is not worth the reward. I respect that latter point of view, not so much the first two.

You are correct, the debates can turn nasty. I’ve enjoyed our debate. We are unlikely to agree on this issue.

“Alberta Clipper pipeline restarted after oil spill south of Regina”

cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatche … -1.2502725

What do you guys make of that? Real improvement to incident response, or a public relations stunt?

Decision imminent it seems.

With pipeline decision imminent, deadlines mount for Enbridge

Harper can say what he wants, this pipeline and export facility will never happen in the Northwest. There is waaaayy too much opposition to it. The risks out way the benefits for BC. BC workers won’t see many jobs from it.

Agreed. The pipeline will be delayed by protests and lawsuits.

It appears that it is Go Time!

news.gc.ca/web/article-en.do?mth … rtr.tp1D=1

on your marks get set and watch the lawyers get rich on this decision :stuck_out_tongue:

Except some of those lawyers are going to make $$$$$ from us the tax payers. :frowning:

Well at least if this materializes when theres a spill I can sell my house for a hefty profit and get the fuck outta here.

I predict that it will be years before construction begins on this ill conceived idea. Even if the pipeline meets all 200+ conditions many citizens, environmentalists, and First Nations groups will ferociously oppose the project.

Highly doubt construction will ever start. Let’s hope Harper will be gone next year.

Indeed. This will be the hot button topic for the 2015 election.

prediction, harper wins minority government due to lost seats in BC. Opposition parties are too chickenshit to topple government over northern gateway opt to save their hides in eastern provinces rather than support the west.

You can tell me im wrong all you want but we’ve never been important to ottawa and I dont see it starting now. Harper will pickup seats elsewhere to make up for the losses in BC.

Maybe we should pull a quebec…

That is a good prediction. Harper won in 2011 by splitting the center and left vote between the Liberals and the NDP. The NDP and the Liberals don’t have really compelling leaders. However, Enbridge may give the opposition a bit more leverage. Interesting times ahead.

Don’t forget robocalls in 2011. 2015 will have more robocalls and Pierre Poilievre’s “Fair Elections Act”.

Jennifer Rice … You have let us down :frowning:

As Craig Oliver said on CTV news,The Enbridge pipeline is deader than dead with the court decision rendered today.

What a ridiculous comment. I’m not even a Rice supporter but in no way did she let us down. What she does in the legislature in Victoria has very little to do with what the conservatives are up to in Parliament in Ottawa. She’s a rookie MLA for the opposition party in BC and has no influence over what the majority Conservatives do.

Yup because chiefs have never been convinced to ignore the best interests or wishes of their people for monetary or other gains… Its not dead theres too much money involved… it might just need to be distributed differently now.
