Economic development model 'a model for failure' says Port Ed councillor

With the deadline for candidates to apply for the position of economic development officer with the Prince Rupert and Port Edward Economic Development Commission closing on Friday, one Port Edward councillor is saying that regardless of the person hired, the structure of the Economic Development Commission is one that will lead to failure.

Currently the economic development officer reports on day-to-day operations to Prince Rupert city manager Gord Howie and Port Edward chief administrative officer Ron Bedard. But any decisions relating to the position, including large expenditures or mandate, are made by a panel consisting of Mayor Jack Mussallem, Mayor Dave MacDonald and one-third party person.
