Double shooting in Terrace nabs one in custody!

Heard about this most of yesterday, but no arrests until I read this:

The North District Major Crime Unit and Terrace RCMP have one male in custody after police were called to a shooting in Thornhill, east of Terrace Saturday afternoon.

Terrace RCMP were called to the Thornhill area at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday. RCMP found a dead man and an injured woman at the scene. Both had been shot. The female was transported to the Terrace Hospital with a serious but non life threatening gunshot wound.

“RCMP are still gathering information to determine what happened and are speaking with witnesses. We are able to confirm that we have one male in custody and that the public is not at risk in relation to this incident”. Stated Cst. Lesley Smith, North District Media Relations Officer.

North District Major Crime Unit and Terrace RCMP continue to speak with witnesses and are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to please contact them at the Terrace Detachment (250) 638-7400. [quote]TERRACE, B.C. – A weekend double shooting in Thornhill, B.C. that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man was drug-related, say RCMP.

The victims were known to the shooter, and “all individuals involved are known to police,” said RCMP Const. Lesley Smith in a news release.

Killed was Eric Maurice Cardinal, 27.

A woman was also injured in the shooting in Thornhill, an unincorporated community adjacent to Terrace in northwestern B.C.

When the police were called out to the shooting about 1 p.m. on Saturday, they were told a suspect had drove off in a pickup truck.

The RCMP found the truck on an abandoned logging road, and with the help of a police dog, found the suspect hiding down an embankment.

Travis Leslie Stephens, 29, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Stephens is in police custody and is set to appear on Wednesday in B.C. Supreme Court in Prince George.

The North District Major Crime Unit and the Terrace RCMP are continuing their investigation.
