Docsis 3 has launched in Kitimat

Citywest has launched Docsis 3 in Kitimat …woot woot… Should have some big bandwidth packages soon  I am hoping 50-120 meg packages soon

City West already can’t fulfill their bandwidth for the people that upgraded to 10 and 15 Mbps in Prince Rupert, were lucky if we pay for 10 Mbps and get 5Mbps max, tell me how the F are they goin to supply 50 to 120Mbps to kitimat when they are already maxed out and overselling again ?

Your bandwidth bottleneck is local. I have a 20 megabit connection and do not lose any bandwidth during peak hours.

sad thing is Rupert might be the last before they fix it as they have no competition here like they do in Kitimat and Terrace with Telus.

I am living in Rupert. At one point when I was on 15 megabits I would get as low as 3 megabits during peak hours. But they upgraded our area and then all was well. I anticipated a slowdown because of sudden increased demand so it wasn’t really upsetting. I am now on the 20 megabit plan and the lowest I go, as tested on Rupert’s Speedtest server is 19 megabits even during peak hours. I will watch a 720P 3D or 1080P 2D movie from servers in the United States during peak hours without a glitch. I have tested torrents and can easily get 1.8 to 2.5 megaBYTES per second downloads on a good torrent, even during peak hours. I would imagine anyone experiencing a bottleneck in their bandwidth during peak hours will get their area upgraded in the not too distant future.

I work for Citywest, Kitimat was done first I believe because we are the smallest system, and ready for it, There might be something to the competition thing but we had to start somewhere, but thats above my payscale to know these things
I do know all Systems will be done in near future.
