Dial up Diap up Dial up

My DSL and phone come on one bill, which somebody else pays.

That can’t be right. The downloads I have going on right now add up to about 200 kbytes/sec…
Just shredded my bill, but I think I pay $49? Something like that.

I have the old style 2 meg, which is hosting this site.
You have a paper shredder at home?? Does it do CDs too?

about 200KB is what I get from my 1.5. They come here in 1.5, 2.5 and 4.0 flavors. my servers are on a 4

eeww i shredded a sticky CD label and the CD stuck to it. It sounded nasty, but the Staples $69 shredder still works ok.

You don’t have the 256k DSL do you?

I have the “Cosmic Net (ADSL Lite)” account.

Which isn’t the 256k DSL, so that doesn’t really apply to you.

Okay. What is the speed of my account? It’s the same one as yours, isn’t it?

Nope, I have the original ADSL from 6 years ago.

What’s the difference?

Yours is “lite” apparently. I have no idea what you have, though.

A lower cap on the bandwidth possibly?

Test your DSL speed:

dslreports.com/stest

Mine came back 1205 down 475 up, from my laptop on a wireless router. THat would ad a small loss.
I’m going to check my work link later.

CityTel has one too… tuck.citytel.net/speed

At Speakeasy, I have 1250 down, 425 Up. Again, on Wireless internet so it does slow down.

Your download speed : 1937699 bps, or 1892 kbps.
A 236.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 905944 bps, or 884 kbps.

That’s on a wireless router to my iBook. Will try it later from the G5. There’s also traffic in and out of HTMF on the same line.

I don’t think the 2Mb DSL is their fastest, but it sure has been the most reliable.

Your line speed:
2100.9 Kbps
257.5 K bytes/sec

I’m a bit faster:

Your line speed:
60895.5 Kbps
7462.7 K bytes/sec

Mind you, that’s from work…

The citytel rate was way different than the LA rate.
Using a (heavily loaded) 4 MB pipe:

DSLREPORTS
2215 down
566 up

CITYTEL
1057.3
129.6 up

should be 4 meg down 768 up

forgot the original post…

Does anyone know how to change the settings for dial up? Mine keeps on disconnecting after 5 hours. I remember a few years ago, my connection used to stay on alllllllllllllllll night like it was viagra or something?

Does anyone know a solution.

thanks. :open_mouth:
simple solution: turn on your e-mail and set it to check every 5 minutes. The idle circuit disconnect is now only 600 seconds on most dialup ISPs.
If you use 98/Me there’s also a ‘disconnect if download speed drops below’ tab somewhere in modems or telephony…
