I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion.
Who in this park, or even in the whole world, doesn’t have problems? Who doesn’t have a drink too many times once in a while and maybe even winds up passed out in their own driveway, pissing themselves? Who doesn’t drink too much sometimes or who doesn’t have a puff from time to time? And who doesn’t have problems with the people they love? This is our home. This is our community.
Yep, we all have problems…SO, I guess then that the answer is to lay face down pissed in my driveway or blow wacky tabaccy smoke out my window…I draw the line though at pissing myself, I do have some class and I ran out of Depends…
Eso my good man, they were talking about frolicking as in dancing. I thought that in of itself was special and deserved special mention here on hackingthemainframe!
And we all hung our heads, feeling just a little ashamed of ourselves for having judged so harshly. And Eso? Well, the last anyone saw of him, he was hitchhiking, headed somewhere else, to another place where he was needed.
That over-used point doesn’t wash. A lot of people step up to the plate but don’t get elected. Others might indeed be able to do a better job but because they are unable to put in the time required and, thus, shortchange the public, don’t run. Others simply don’t want the job. None of this disqualifies anyone from being able to question their representatives and hold them accountable.
People holding public office chose to do that. They know they are there to serve the citizens of their community. I don’t feel an ounce of sympathy for councillors for having to face tough questions or criticisms about how they are doing their jobs. You have a thin skin and don’t like being scrutinized publicly? Get out. Plain and simple.
Well, having served in elected office once upon a time, I completely agree with you on this one. Councillors are not paid much relative to the abuse they sometimes take, and some do bring a lot of heart and a desire to serve to their offices, but on the other hand a great many community level politicans have parlayed their experience into more senior elected positions or influential board appointments or executive positions. Local office can be an investment of sorts and like all investments there are risks. I did not choose that route myself. I prefer being a contrarion and recalcitrant, like a great many posters on HTMF.
