Coast Tsimshian Academy employees granted BCGEU application

The BCGEU website has outlined the latest developments in the labour troubles at the Lax Kw’alaams Academy, as local employees at the Academy have had their application for membership in the provincial union approved.

The order issued on July 19th, certified the BCGEU as the employees bargaining agent in their dispute with Lax Kw’alaams management. Including teachers, teaching assistants and other staff members there are now 40-43 members within the Bargaining unit…

Wow, 40-43 members of the bargaining unit?  There must be more staff than students there!

Yeah that does seem kind of a high amount, compared to local schools here, wonder what the student/staff ratio is at the school?

Might also be interesting to look at the ratio between students and non-teaching personnel … particularly compared to SD52, which seems a tad top heavy with administrators/consultants etc, with generous salaries and fees being paid, and occasional severance packages when ‘issues’ arise with the elected school board.
