City Spends a lot on Consulting Fees

I see the city has another 3 million to blow on another consultation firm.

Have the same concern in the Fort. Consultants that talked them into plans to pretty up things for huge sums of money while creating not a single new job. Even spawned a Concerned Citizens group on FB that’s growing daily.

Yeah, to bad I won’t touch Facebook with a 10 foot pole after I got Phished twice quite a while back.

I hear you on that! Phishing, hacking, and general nefarious activity is not limited to social media. I regularly get scam calls on our landline, BS text messages and sketchy e-mails. Criminals continue to get more inventive.

I get the tax free native cigs posts all the time. Illegal to advertise smokes, illegal to counsel tax evasion but FB is Above The Law/.
Ads are equal to what was in comic books back in the 1960s. GIANT SUBMARINS! XRAY SPECS! $39 mobility scooters,

agree on facebook but with the consulting thing – id just like to see what these reports actually recommend and whether the city actually follows through. feels like half of em end up in a filing cabinet somewhere

The problem some of us here are having is that they hire thses consultants, probably the sane outfit you do that specialize in running around proposing huge projects and helping you get the grant funding to implement them. $350K over theklasy few years here alone.

No public input, no alternate planning. We’re so pissed here we’re running a few like minded citizens for Mayor & Council this Oct.
A million dollar bandstand when they haven’t after all these years purchased the lots that make up the park? A cafe at the marina when there’s only two left standing in the whole town and food trucks at every event in the adjacent park & campsite?

Who even comes up with this shit?

ha that is nothing here in Rupert they spent over $5million on the old CN building and rent it out for only $50,000 and the lessee didn’t even have to pay anything to modify it for his brewing business, they say it was all grant money but the money came from the slush fund, umm I mean the Legacy Fund which is city money being hidden from the public, then Watson Island is leased to the Legacy Fund for a dollar then the Legacy Fund collects the lease from Pembina instead of going into general revenue, and still our property taxes go up, and don’t get me started on the tax break for A&W and the Longshoreman’s Hall

There’s growing feeling here that Council is simply forking out money to the consultants and the Staff is implementing the consultant’s plans with zero direction from Council or input from citizens.
A committee went to find out why their neighbourhood still has no water services and got baffles with bullshit and sent home with brochures and videos. The outrageous marina upgrade plan is right beside their homes!

I think there will be some big changes come October, if anyone shows up to vote.
