Red Hat was one of the first distros I used. I’m quite fond of it.
Wow, I can’t remember the last time I tried Red Hat.
Giving it a go now in a VM to see what I’m missing

Yeah, Red Hat 9 was the last version I ran. After that RH became pay per view with their enterprise versions. I liked the early Anaconda installer.

At the moment I am having fun with Arch Linux and the Plasma desktop on one of my units. I’ll run it until it breaks. Haha.
Red Hat is nice enough, I guess. Would be perfect for the pointy-haired boss that needs to pay for software and support.
Don’t know what the advantage over Ubuntu would be for the average Joe.

Yup. The default desktop for RH 8 is now Gnome which is a bit sluggish in my opinion. This is Arch with KDE-plasma. It boots up using about 380 MB RAM which is not too shabby at all.
Maybe I’ll try arch in a VM too…

Downloading the RHEL 8.0 ISO. Will run it in a VM in a bit. Awesome.
RHEL 8.0 is a very solid OS. The only thing holding me back is the cost. I don’t feel comfortable shelling out $49.00 US for a subscription to access security updates. I do financially support other open source projects (Slackware, OpenBSD). I may run CentOS 8 when it’s released.

Downloaded the 6.6 GB CentOS ISO and copied it to a USB stick with dd. The Gnome default desktop environment is nice, but, very heavy. Gnome uses 1.2 GB of RAM on start-up. I’m going back to Debian 10.1.
