Another pedestrian hit by car

The great taxi drivers of Rupert strike again!.. A man was hit in the crosswalk outside the Bargain Store… This is the second one with-in two months!

I think the cab drivers in this town should be put through regular testing… You would think with the amount of time they are behind the wheel they would be the best drivers in town… but apparently that’s not the case. While there are a number of good drivers at Skeena, the shitty ones seem to out number them.

My friends dog was hit by a cabby a couple of years ago… and the dog was in his driveway! The dog died early last year from injuries directly related to the accident. Unfortunately the RCMP doesn’t deal with these types of accidents on the same level as if a human had been hit.

We took a cab not too long ago and the darn cab driver was reeking with weed.

I’m not saying it’s okay, but there are a lot of people in this town who are either airheads or have never driven. Contrary to popular belief, there is a threshhold distance at any speed when exceeded a vehicle is unable to stop. And what I mean by that is stupid people walking quickly into the middle of the road without checking either way. Bikes are fun too. I’ve seen kids zipping right across crosswalks and nearly causing accidents (12-14 yrs old).

There are legitimately bad drivers in this town, but there are many more legitimately stupid pedestrians as well. Word to the wise peds: Conduct yourself in a careful manner and check both ways and perhaps even let a car that is coming up on the crosswalk go by before you venture out.

I was wondering how you got the name Meep Meep Zoom , just thinking of a road runner.

Well put Meep… I’ve always said half the pedestrians of Prince Rupert would be dead if they were forced to live in a major urban center

Everyone is always so quick to blame the driver…I seen countless times people in this town dash out into the street, push their strollers into the street without even looking, CLEARLY to blame if they get hit…they assume the driver will seem them at the last second and screech to a halt.

Drivers do need to slow down and take extra caution, but pedestrians need to do the same…I don’t even attempt to cross on 3rd or 2nd unless eye contact has been made with the drivers and they have come to a full stop.

Agree with you there! Have to LOVE the ones that expect the semis to stop for them though, classic! Then you have the cab drivers and others who do a “U-ie” in an intersection! or the drivers that are stopped at the crossings and the ones behind decide to pass them, almost been a goner with those sons of bitches!

I always seem to get in shit or trouble keeping an eye out to make sure someones maybe making eye contact .I always try to explain the same thing re the post which mentions the exact thing .

Heh, when you get pedestrians who say “pedestrians have the right of way” and then walk out in front of oncoming traffic, can you really blame the drivers for hitting them? Some of these people just don’t care if they get hit… And yes, I have had someone say that to me, when I gave them shit for waltzing out in front of traffic. I replied "you won’t be saying that when you’re lying in a hospital bed, in traction…

Not to forget the poor elderly lady who got hit by the bus today too.

Waay in a past life. But I grew up about 15 years ago. You’re not wrong on the analogy.

Umm i usually take things i read on HTMF with a grain of salt. That being said, a lot that is posted on here is true. However today i need to set the record straight. It was a lady that was hit not a man. I know this for fact due to she is part of family, and i can happily report that she is doing fine.

There were two pedestrians hit by two vehicles yesterday. A male was hit by a cab on 3rd and a lady was hit by a bus on 1st. I’m glad to read that the woman is doing fine.

BC should change the law from pedestrians having the right of way to cars having the right of way, like Quebec. Less people will be hit and it will lower all the costs related to these kinds of accidents.

they should be tested, one almost hit me walking across a crosswalk by Annunciation school, I was able to see that the cab driver was blind and would run me over,I was almost half way across the cross walk ,and seen the cab cumming and not slowing down, so I stopped just on the other side of the line and watched the blind cab driver swerve to the right while I looked him right in the eye’s and shook my head at him. He never seen me untill he was driving by me.

… oh really?

Did you get his taxi number

I said I almost got hit , oh it was really lol

I dont give a f#%^what his cab # was because I never got hit, I am just agreeing with this post, that cab drivers should be tested once in a while.
