While walking the dogs along the waterfront the other day I saw air or another gas bubbling up from the foreshore. This was between the chain link fence and the fire hydrant only. Is it a coincidence that this area is directly behind the large red building the city works uses? The bubbles weren’t just seeping; they were coming out at quite a rate.
Mystery solved! Remnants of old pilings are still underground and when the tide comes in the air trapped in the rotting pilings escapes.
I’m going to stick with my theory that it’s the spirit of an ancient evil rising to wreck havoc on the city for all of its sins.
