Watson Island time lines might be getting fuzzy

Before we throw last weeks Northern View into the recycle bin for the next trip out to the Recycling Centre (providing they will still be open on the Saturday we arrive), we must take a quick look at a recent item of interest found on those pages about everyone’s favourite coffee time topic, the fate of the Watson Island site…

Back in December just before council met with the six community groups who were to receive the largest grants I met with Mr. Rodin.  I pointed out that the Watson Island bill was about the same as the budget shortfall and that if we didn’t have Watson Island to deal with the budget would be balanced.

He told me then that that wasn’t completely true because Watson Island was coming out of reserves.  I said that that was unfortunate because maybe this was the year that budget shortfalls to the library, Lester Centre etc. could have come out of reserves.  I got the impression that that wouldn’t have been an option anyway.

I then asked what would happen next year, how long will our reserves last.  He just said that hopefully the site would be sold by then.
